1) Thanks Alex and Mikula from @44inch.printworks for inviting me to take part in the wonderful show “Familiar Faces/Unfamiliar Places” last weekend.

This is my photo „Torwart“ (“Goalkeeper”), taken in Halle-Neustadt. It might be one of my favorite pics of this year so far.

A Social Media Hello

Hello and nice to meet you online and greetings from my small corner of a shared planet to you in yours. Thank you for your generosity of a friend request, it is a pleasure to return the compliment.

I am a British gallery artist and lecturer now based in Berlin working almost exclusively in the photographic medium. I photograph urban flora. They look like night but they are daytime with flash. I do not post process the images other than the crop. A full portfolio is available online with my agents at Tea & Water Pictures. https://www.teaandwaterpictures.co. This is a nonexclusive representation. All pictures are available for sale and are printed to order but I do not share them online with this in mind. I make pictures because it is good from me.

I respond direct messages if they are about our shared interest in the visual arts. I do not tolerate unsolicited political or religious comment and delete and block those accounts immediately.

This all sounds a little pompous (it’s the beard) for which I apologise but it is based in experience. I believe that if you want to find out about the real emotional maturity of any individual, pay attention to how they use the internet or drive a car. What does this say about me?

ALLES LIEBE AUS DEM BAUMHAUS

You create something, but it’s the people who give it meaning. @44inch.printworks and I made something special for the guests at their studio exhibition: a cup. 🥤
The idea came from that feeling of being a fish out of water as a creative. 🐟
And then you have a drink with this community and realise you were never swimming alone! 💛🐟✨🐟✨🐟✨💛

In 12 years, we’ve built well over 20,000 frames — more than 10,000 of them from upcycled wood. 12 years has seen students become parents. People pass away. Dogs adored. Artworks purchased. You’ve brought us stories of your travels, your families, your passions and your homes.

The team grew. We opened two locations in Berlin. We built an online shop, and a new business artframers.com

But the focus has remained the same: Your memories are valuable. And art looks better framed.

Thank you for 12 years. ❤️

Three pictures of a gust of wind passing through a willow tree, growing alongside the Landwehrkanal, Berlin.

I actually found this small sequence of pictures quite moving to make. You must experience that from time to time? As an emotional pull, It’s not always present but when it is...

Lost in the “Flow” of the moment it was dizzying to actually stop making pictures and return blinking into the other light of play.

These pictures are how I choose to share my love of art. This is the world I see. The world I would have overlooked if I wasn’t searching for pictures. I make these pictures for my pleasure alone. Some of the time there is that rare spark of a universal understanding that is shared with others. As a visual artist, a photographer, I can only start small. I have started with what is all around me. This is the greatest gift of my photographic experience so far.

Look at what I would have missed if I wasn’t looking.

Photography has educated me and I didn’t feel that I was being taught. I learn about plants, the sciences, our shared world around us. Plants and photography both need light. Photosynthesis is essential to our life. Photo Synthesis. Light lives. Photography is a transference of light to image.

I make these pictures in camera, with virtually no post processing. They are all daylight, underexposed and then relit with an off camera flash. They look like night but that is not my goal. I am looking for the drama, the stage that is our city homes. All of these photographs are made in my city home of Berlin.

I day dream is of making pictures that move me. Move me as much as when I hear other people sing, or watch others dance. I have to be open to failure but every now and again I get that thrill. “I made that!” That germination of awe at producing something that I love. That I find beautiful. When it is printed I want to carry it around and lean it against the wall in different parts of my home.

I MADE THAT. I don’t think of them as shots. These are gifts.
