@inkyemily moved to GA!
Got a van, van sucked, returned van. Got another van, left GA half a day late. Crashed in a hotel in VA, overslept, missed Emily’s going away brunch. Worked remote for a week. Went to a concert. Got dinner with friends. Went to Capt Dans one last time. Moved her stuff down 4 flights of stairs (my legs hurt). Stayed in DC, met new and old friends. Locked Lacey in a cage with a litter box she refused to use, when she did she missed 😢. Drove through 8 states and DC to get home. Finally made it! Now we have to unload the van 😭

Protesting is world building

Like many of you I am watching the protests unfolding in Iran and wondering what I can do to support, especially considering that I am absolutely not qualified to comment. However it seems that all this sharing on social media is doing something, and after some thought I decided to follow the advice of this Medium article and share - especially considering how it seems to me to be so underreported. Link to the article in my stories.

So much of what interests me is preoccupied with this question of world-building: how do we change the trajectory of the future? This is why I liked the concept of “Imagination Activism” when I first heard it. Building on decades of theory and practise about world-building and the role of imagination in social justice movements. Imagination activism can sound like a soft proposition but as the protests rage forward in Iran, I am struck by how these protestors are imagination activists; not just seeking to tear down the old, but actively dreaming the new. “Women, life, freedom” is a roar for a different world.

“Dreaming is not passive. In dreaming, our communities materialise a world where, through fury and love, transformation in all its rebelliousness thrives.” - @shaydakafai

“All organising is science fiction” - @adriennemareebrown

I’m so happy to be a part of DC’s grid benefitting @nstreetvillagedc with all of these amazing artists. Thank you @jason_rothman and our wonderful guest curator @claracornelius for your work on putting this together.

@cogrid19 is a series of risograph prints created to raise money for those most affected by the pandemic. The project brings together 19 artists from a city, each contributing to a shared grid representing their time in quarantine. The collected works are a commentary on the public health crisis and the racial, political and environmental issues that have overtaken our days. Every penny raised will be donated to worthy organizations leading the efforts to help those in need.

If you’d like to buy a print, 100% of the proceeds go to @nstreetvillagedc , an organization that assists thousands of unhoused women in the DC area. Link in my bio to purchase!

I’m so pleased to share a project that I was invited to participate in earlier this year called COGRID-19! It was so cool to see how different designers expressed their time during quarantine. This is just one of the grids created in different cities across the country, and every cent raised from the DC grid goes to N Street Village.

A huge thanks to @jason_rothman and @claracornelius for organizing the DC grid and bringing us all together. Check out @cogrid19 to see all of the grids and support @nstreetvillagedc

So grateful to be a part of the Washington DC @cogrid19 project. This awesome poster was designed by 19 local artists (many of whom are Village friends) to represent their time in quarantine. All proceeds go to the Village to support the nearly 2,000 women we welcome each year!
