POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The latest @nonstopgrain photowalk has returned from @gulabiphoto with great success from the lowly tennent’s camera. Definitely gonna shoot ultramax or other 400 speed films in it from now on (maybe not portra 400 though). Many thanks all round to the previously mentioned organiser and film lab, had a great time :)

Our (photo walk) band could be your life — August 2026

h/t @nonstopgrain for organising these fun, free, monthly photo walks.

The mean streets of Glasgow

How to make a Scottish photo walk even more Scottish? How about a camera shaped like a can of Tennent’s Lager? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Frames from a Glasgow photowalk lead by @nonstopgrain 23.05.2026

🧪 Dev + scan @gulabiphoto

First roll through my (new to me) 60 year old Nikomat FT and everything seems to be working. 🙌

Added fresh light seals with adhesive foam from Hobbycraft and took my Sekonic along to confirm the camera’s built in meter was accurate. Still amazed when something has stood up to the test of time so well. Hard to imagine any cameras made today will function exactly as intended 60 years on.

For anyone wondering (and somehow still reading this waffle) Nikomat was the name given to the cameras sold domestically within Japan. Everywhere else these cameras were Nikkormat. The only difference is the name plate. In a strange coincidence, when this bargain FT arrived, the return address turned out to be just down the road from where my grandparents used to live. A fact, no doubt of interest only to me but there you go.

Not So Action Sampler

Purchased for £13.49 on Vinted: a built by @lomography Action Sampler camera that takes four sequential photos on a single 35mm film frame, within the space of about one second. Seemed perfect for testing on the latest monthly photo walk organised by @nonstopgrain Stu, yesterday in Glasgow’s Govanhill neighbourhood.

What I hoped for: Fun photos, especially with subjects in motion, with a combination of black & white film, blur and repetition lending a minimalist feel.

What I got: Mostly light leaks. On an overcast day in Glasgow. But there were a few keepers and it was a fun collective effort.

The final four frames (x4), with decreasing amounts of light leaks, came out best. Most of the others bear signs that each of the four different frames in the camera brought its own light leak when it fired.

Verdict: Fun to experiment, but having sampled the purported action, this camera is destined for the scrap heap.

That said, thank you to everyone who helped me test it out. Also to @gulabiphoto for the super quick develop +scan 👊

Now, onto whatever fresh 35mm film madness catches my eye. 😂

A magical weekend of wet plate adventures with a lovely group at @streetlevelphotoworks Glasgow.

Some incredible plates being made and more coffee and biscuits than I had planned.

The next course dates are 28th Feb and 1st March 2026. Hope to see you there!

I had to delete and re-post as I got the dates wrong in the video 🤣
