A little over an hour on the road… and I’d make that drive all over again.

The 517 Juneteenth Festival was more than just setting up a booth. It was spending the day surrounded by people who genuinely love music.

I met some really cool vendors, talked records for hours, shared the stories behind a few albums, and listened to people tell me about the music that shaped their lives. Those conversations are just as meaningful to me as making a sale.

One of my favorite parts of this journey is watching a record spark a memory. Sometimes it’s an album someone grew up with. Sometimes it’s one they’ve been searching for for years. Sometimes it’s just a conversation that starts with, “Man… I haven’t seen this in a long time.”
Those are the moments I’ll remember most.

Thank you, Lansing, for the warm welcome, the conversations, and the love. Looking forward to the next time we cross paths.

Until the next crate dig… 🎶✌🏾

New campaign drop 🎨🔥

Had the honor of creating the full visual identity for @517juneteenth Weekend, presented by Ourspace Foundation. 🙌🏽

The concept: Every event got its own color story based on the time of day and feeling of that experience. Warm dusk tones for the evening seminar. Bright afternoon energy for the Ice Cream Social.

The full sky-inspired palette for the Festival. Moody blues for Jazz Night. One connected sky, four different moment, tying the whole weekend together as a single campaign.

From Save-The-Dates to Artist Spotlights to the Official schedule, every piece was built to feel like the event feels in person: warm, proud, energetic, and rooted in Lansing.

The 6th annual 517 Juneteenth Weekend is officially a wrap!

To the 517, thank you for showing up, celebrating with us, supporting one another, and helping make this our biggest Juneteenth Weekend yet!

This year was one for the books. We welcomed record-breaking attendance, watched vendors sell out throughout the weekend, saw hundreds of children participate in our Mobile Learning Adventure and Kidz Zone, gathered for meaningful conversations at our Wellness Seminar, and closed out Father’s Day with another unforgettable Jazz Night featuring Horn & Holland.

We’re still so full, so grateful, and still taking it all in.

A huge thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, @lafculansing, for believing in this vision and helping make this weekend possible. We’re also incredibly thankful to every sponsor, community partner, volunteer, performer, vendor, artist, speaker, and attendee who poured into this celebration.

Thank you to our incredible headliner, @jamilawoods, for bringing your gift to Lansing, our keynote speaker Alexis Travis for your powerful message, every one of our panelists for sharing your wisdom, and Horn & Holland for closing the weekend with the perfect soundtrack.

This weekend continues to remind us what’s possible when a community comes together to celebrate culture, invest in one another, and create spaces where everyone belongs.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing photos, videos, and moments from throughout the celebration, so be sure to follow along.

If you’d like to help us make the 7th Annual 517 Juneteenth Weekend even bigger, please consider becoming a donor. Visit ourspacefoundation.org to support the work.

Wow what an amazing Juneteenth Weekend for the Racial Equity Taskforce! We started out at the Healthy People Creating Healthy Communities Seminar where we presented the Robin Lewis Scholarship to three local students. We got to listen to panels of local community members making a difference and a keynote speaker who inspired us to keep pushing through these extraordinary times. Saturday we set up our booth at the Juneteenth festival in Reo Town and spoke with countless community members and celebrated with friends. This was an amazing weekend and hope to see you all again next year! @ourspace517 ✊🏾🫶🏾

This time again next year! We ate good food, saw faces we haven’t seen in a minute, danced, laughed, supported businesses and moved. Good vibes all around & it felt healing. Grateful for Ourspace. Be sure to see what other events they have on the calendar.

The 6th Annual 517 Juneteenth Weekend is officially a wrap. ❤️

In 2021, I started @ourspace517 to activate spaces throughout our community where we could come together as our full, authentic selves, celebrate and elevate culture, support local businesses, and build stages that myself and other artists could stand on.

Six years later, the festival continues to grow, our work as a nonprofit continues to expand, and the impact speaks for itself.

Seeing Black joy. People dancing in the streets. Businesses selling out. Families and generations coming together in celebration.

I’m full of gratitude and cannot thank my hometown enough for showing up and showing out over the past four days.

I’m also thankful for my team and all of the hard work, late nights, and early mornings that made this weekend possible.

And thank you to @jamilawoods for making the trip from Chicago to the Capital City and sharing your gift with us. We can’t wait to welcome you back. ❤️

The older I get, the more I realize there’s more to life than partying, drinking, and chasing temporary things. This weekend was a reminder of that. Being around good people, seeing familiar faces, meeting new ones, and just enjoying the moment. Life feels different when you’re building something instead of escaping something🤍
