Different terrain, soils, climate, materials, and conditions require trailbuilders to adapt and innovate.

PTBA member Jed Talbot got us thinking about this year’s webinar series while filming our Trail Fundamentals videos. He talks about how much he loves learning about the site-specific techniques that grow out of different geographic regions to counter the challenges specific to that place.

So this winter, we’re bringing together PTBA members from different regions to share those techniques, challenges, and innovations — and we want to hear what you’d like them to dig into.

What regional techniques, challenges, or innovations should we explore?

Share your ideas in the comments — we’ll use them to help shape the series.

Save the dates: December 3, January 7 + February 4

PTBA webinars are always free — and you can watch our full library anytime (link in bio).

Every professional trailbuilder carries a clinometer.

Because measuring slope is foundational to sustainable trail design.

In Video 2 of our Trail Fundamentals series, we focus on how to properly use a clinometer to measure percent grade in the field — and what those measurements mean for sustainability. We break down percent grade, side slope, and the essential role grade plays in trail planning and construction.

Data informs design. Experience refines it.

🎥 Watch now and strengthen your field skills.

A couple years ago, I didn’t have many opportunities so I had lots of time to build my portfolio and make posts. Now I don’t have time to make posts because I have so many opportunities. Blessed to be able to do what I do. Grateful for the friends made along the way.
