Kamal Abdulmonem 🇸🇩 (@kamal.abdulmonem) is a Sudanese documentary photographer whose work is shaped by his experiences of displacement and the search for a sense of home.

After leaving Khartoum following the outbreak of war in Sudan, Kamal began developing Temporary Cities, a photography project reflecting on movement, memory, and belonging. Selected by Through The Lens Collective (TTLC) to develop the project, he photographs people, ordinary spaces, and daily routines, drawing on experiences that began long before the war.

Gihad Abdelsamie 🇪🇬 (@gihadabdelsamie) is an Egyptian documentary photographer based in Cairo whose work focuses on everyday life, traditional crafts, local heritage, and the people behind the places she photographs.

Her practice began with street photography before developing into a deeper interest in crafts, heritage, and the stories held within ordinary places. Gihad pays close attention to light, shadow, colour, and the relationships between people and their surroundings, creating photographs that preserve details from places and ways of life that are changing.

One of the biggest changes in her practice has been learning to see differently. Returning to familiar places and discovering details she had previously overlooked has become an important part of how she understands photography.

Rania Deabes 🇪🇬 (@raniaadeabes) is an Egyptian street and documentary photographer drawn to fleeting, unexpected moments and the human stories they hold. She began photographing in 2019, training in documentary and street photography at Al-Wafd, an Egyptian newspaper, before the COVID-19 pandemic led her into freelance work.

Colour, for Deabes, is an emotional language, an essential part of building an image and its feeling. Her photography focuses on the stories of women and children forced to work at an early age, and themes of loss, anger, and absence. She works slowly, building genuine relationships with the people she photographs.
