Figure incontournable du free jazz, Cyrille a marqué l’histoire aux côtés de géants comme Mary Lou Williams, Coleman Hawkins ou encore Cecil Taylor. En première partie, @5ilience le premier quintette à anches du Québec propose un programme tout en contrastes avec des œuvres de Nico Muhly, Niloufar Nourbakhsh, Ufuk Biçak et Abraham Gómez. Présenté par le @cnmn_rcmn @artsinthemargins @interzone_editions et @groupelevivier dans le cadre de @quebec_musiques_paralleles et le Festival Flux. ⓟ ⓞ ⓡ ⓣ ⓡ ⓐ ⓘ ⓣ Pendant ces dernières années, @5ilience [si-li-ən-s] s’est dédié à créer des espaces d’émerveillements et de dialogue en partageant le répertoire unique du quintette à anche et par des collaborations avec compositeurs·trices émergents·e·s et établi·e·s, issu·e·s des univers classique, pop, contemporain et jazz. Fondé en 2022 par de jeunes artistes audacieux, 5ilience est le tout premier quintette à anches au Québec. Dans tous leurs projets, il est important pour l’ensemble de partager ce qu’iels considèrent comme l’essence de la création contemporaine, marquée par la curiosité, l’expérimentation, le sens du rassemblement, la co-création et la fluidité. Here is one last offering before the album is out this Friday. Jasmine Oore, Fabio De Felice and I made a video for my song “Tonight”, which is out today. Follow the link in my bio to watch the whole thing. This song is an elegy to inescapable cycles of nature, tracing the quiet beauty of endings and the births they give way to. Jasmine reminded me yesterday that we first started talking about this video about 3 years ago, and she has been gathering footage of birds ever since. Fabio and I went out on many days since last winter to capture footage of me playing and singing in the “wild habitat” of Montreal parks. I’m so incredibly grateful to both of them for all their work and dedication to this project, and am beaming with pride at what we’ve made. This is also one of the songs on the record that showcases the Reed quintet @5ilience who helped make these recordings so special with their brilliant playing and sensitivity. 🌸Flowers Wild Abound🌸 out September 12th This is the first album I’ve made with the harp at its center. These songs speak in the language of wildflowers, living in quiet spaces and offered in the simple hope of beauty. This was a labor of love shaped over many years. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who walked alongside me during the process, especially Sarah Pagé, who co-produced the album with me and helped throughout every step with patience, generosity, and presence. I got my first harp in the fall of 2019, after dreaming of the instrument for ages. Two years later, I began making this album, having fully fallen for the harp’s voice. I wrote with a kind of urgency I hadn’t felt in a long while. I finished old songs, reworked forgotten fragments, and discovered new ones as I leaned into the instrument and let it lead. It was a balm, steeping in the wilderness within its strings. Well, I kind of started composing more actively since June. Last Sunday, with @5ilience, we premiered my latest piece Tell us what you see for five melodicas. I was mostly inspired by the feelings I experienced after reading the poem ''Every Time I Ever Said I Want to Die'' by @andreagibson. You can find the full video on youtube.
