🔴⚫️ STATE BOUND! ⚫️🔴

Today, Rough Rider Track & Field heads to Columbus for the 2026 OHSAA State Championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Representing Roosevelt this weekend are Simon Hassler, Ke’Shan Talbert, Jaiden Portis, Kaidyn Harris, Braylon Hawthorne, Kyle McQueen, and Tyler Ellington.

This talented group has already made history, becoming the largest contingent of Rough Rider track & field state qualifiers to compete in Columbus since the early 1990s. Their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence have earned them the opportunity to compete on Ohio’s biggest stage.

We couldn’t be more proud of these athletes and the coaches who have helped guide them along the way. Thank you for representing Roosevelt, Kent, and the Rough Rider community with pride.

Good luck this weekend, Rough Riders! We’ll all be cheering you on from home. 🔴⚫️

🏆 STATE BOUND & RECORD BREAKERS 🏆

Some records are broken once.

SOME RECORDS ARE BROKEN SIX TIMES…BY THE SAME RELAY…IN THE SAME SEASON.

Congratulations to Tyler Ellington, Ke’Shan Talbert, Jaiden Portis, and Simon Hassler on an incredible performance at the Division II Regional Championships!

In one of the fastest and most competitive regions in Ohio, the Rough Rider 4x200 relay punched its ticket to the OHSAA State Championships with a 4th-place finish and a blazing school-record time of 1:28.18.

Not only did they earn a trip to Columbus—they lowered their own school record for the sixth time this season, continuing one of the most remarkable relay campaigns in program history.

🏅 OHSAA ARCHIE GRIFFIN SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD 🏅

Congratulations to Theodore Roosevelt seniors Hannah Hido and Jaiden Portis on being named this year’s recipients of the OHSAA Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award. 🔴⚫️

The award is presented annually to one senior male and one senior female athlete who exemplify sportsmanship, integrity, and ethical behavior both on and off the field of play. 👏

A well-deserved recognition for two student-athletes who have represented Theodore Roosevelt High School with class throughout their athletic careers. #KentRiderPride

⚡️ FIVE TIMES AND COUNTING. ⚡️

The Rough Rider boys 4x200 relay did it AGAIN last night at the District Finals at Tallmadge High School, breaking the school record for the FIFTH time this season with a blazing 1:28.7. 🔥

Cold weather. Rain. Didn’t matter.

This group continues to rewrite the Roosevelt record books every time they step on the track. These boys are absolutely on fire right now. 👏🔴⚫️

Congratulations to Simon Hassler, Jaiden Portis, Tyler Ellington, and Ke’Shan Talbert as they advance to Regionals next week. #KentRiderPride

🏀 JAIDEN PORTIS IS HEADED TO THE NEXT LEVEL 🏀

Roosevelt senior Jaiden Portis has officially signed to continue his academic and athletic career playing basketball at Kent State University Tuscarawas.

A standout three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track & field, Jaiden has built an unforgettable legacy at Roosevelt. This spring alone, he broke two school track records, including the long jump record that had stood for more than 30 years. 🔥

Beyond the accomplishments, Jaiden is known throughout Roosevelt as one of the nicest student-athletes around — someone teammates, coaches, and teachers can always count on.

Even better, Jaiden will continue his basketball journey alongside fellow Roosevelt graduate and close friend EJ Churn, as both Rough Riders will be heading to Tuscarawas together. ❤️🖤

Congratulations, Jaiden! Roosevelt is incredibly proud of you and excited to see what the future holds. #KentRiderPride
