POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

growing up we would ALWAYS sneak into bumbershoot. squeezing ourselves through the fences or one the homies distract the security guard & we run right past them all into different directions & meeting up at the water fountain.i remember my mom telling me those same stories & seeing her transition into actually getting ready to go to a bumbershoot concert with tickets was a eye opener. good things don’t last forever. those were some of the best days of my life. youthful, creative, curious & hungry. i always wanted to be backstage, i always wanted to learn how this process works. being involved in a festival & how you could create a experience with SO MANY artists that can connect with so many people all across the world? people getting to see their favorite artists all in one setting is such an amazing feeling. bumbershoot has done so much for the City of Seattle & we’re blessed to have this festival still pumping blood throughout our city.

i’ve be blessed with the opportunity to partner with the @seattleblackfilmfest & @bumbershoot to showcase our “You Look Good!” commercial at the videorama inside the Siff Film Center this Saturday & Sunday. Can’t wait to see all the beautiful black women on the big screen. Thank you to everyone who made this possible & believing our vision.

From sneaking in this place to actually being highlighted is such a blessing & honor. Thank you mama i love you 💕🕊️

Some of my fondest memories revolve around the black women and their stunning hair that defined my childhood home. Surrounded by these incredible women, my upbringing was steeped in the beauty and complexity of black hair, shaping the essence of this project. Our bathroom was a bustling hub of laughter, drama, and endless hair rituals. From moms giving us the business for being late to aunties blocking the way with their unhelpful commentary, mornings were a whirlwind of activity. And oh, the countless times I walked in only to find my cousin’s hairgear in use, realizing they’d accidentally swiped my favorite headscarf!

These moments, though often chaotic and comedic, were more than just family antics—they were lessons in resilience, self-care, and cultural pride. Each morning, my granny’s wake-up calls and the meticulous grooming routines instilled in me a profound respect for the art of maintaining one’s appearance. Back then, walking out of the house looking anything less than polished was simply not an option. Our hairstyles were not just about aesthetics but about upholding a legacy of beauty and dignity.

To this day, I carry these lessons with me, ensuring I always leave the house looking my best. The influence of black women and their hair isn’t just a cultural touchstone; it’s a testament to the care and pride that comes with every strand, every style. So, here’s to the lessons learned in those lively bathroom battles and the enduring beauty they’ve inspired in me.

tomorrow we’ll be premiering our “You Look Good!!!” visual at the infamous @scopescreenings.

meet us at the Siff Egyptian Theater on Capitol Hill tomorrow. doors open at 6pm // show starts at 7pm .

im so excited for this. I’ve always wanted to be apart of the @scopescreenings but we usually shoot our videos in vertical form so they wouldnt format to a screen that well. the “You Look Good” visuals are something that we planned on showing off for awhile so we decided to shoot in the regular format. by the time we finished this project i assumed the submissions were closed and i would have to wait till next year. man my boy @lexscope gave me the green light to make it happen this month. i was so ecstatic i smiled for the rest of the night for no absolute reason.
