(Hamada’s Hidden Gems): “Baby Girlz” is the first track on British singer/songwriter Ray BLK’s debut extended play (EP), “Durt” (Not on Label / Self-Released / BMG Rights Management / CTM Publishing / 70Hz Publishing / Warner Chappell Music).

It was written by Ray BLK (credited as Rita Ekwere) alongside Christopher “Melé” Peers and Fraser T. Smith, while production was handled by Smith, with Melé serving as additional producer, Dan Parry as mixing engineer, and Mike Bozzi as mastering engineer.

The song functions as a sardonic, observational story about vanity, changing social dynamics, and the fleeting nature of superficial attention in inner-city youth culture.

Delivered with a distinct South London perspective and slang, the track weaves in sharp commentary on neighborhood realities and systemic struggles that trap young people in cyclical dependencies.

As of date, “Baby Girlz” has been streamed more than 0.9 million times on Spotify.

We sit down with writer and music producer @thekodemusic to talk about early musical influences, signing with Warner Chappel Music @70hzpublishing @warnerchappelluk @warnerchappellmusic and of course his @solidstatelogic studio setup.

With artist collaborations including Nath Brooks, Big Zuu, Ashley Walters, Geo Jordan, Hrvy, Izzy Bizu, JLS and Tia Carys, you’ve most probably heard a track or two which have had The Kode’s touch.
