A year ago, my daughter turned 18 and graduated high school. Today she is 19, and I find myself in deep awe of how much she has grown in just one year.

As a mental health professional and a parent, I am often reminded that growth is not measured by milestones alone. It is also reflected in emotional maturity, self-awareness, and the ability to stay grounded in who you are while navigating life’s transitions.

Healthy development happens through relationships that foster independence, emotional safety, and authenticity; where young people are encouraged to grow without being defined by performance or outside expectations.

Identity develops from within, shaped by experience, reflection, and the courage to become your true self. The real goal of adulthood is not external validation; it is the cultivation of self-trust, resilience, and authenticity.

Zoee, I love you, and I am so proud of everything you are accomplishing. Watching you grow into the person you are becoming has been such a gift. Keep believing in yourself and embracing your journey.
