Andy Wilman back where it all began, the Top Gear test track.

If you haven’t seen this episode of Kidd in a Sweet Shop yet, give it a watch. Not only because we shot it, but beyond that, it captures one of those genuinely special moments that hits differently if you grew up with Top Gear.

Old School, and proper. Enjoy.

I’ve just had such a class week in the UAE and Oman. We were lucky enough to take part in the @1000migliaexperienceuae car rally which took us 1000 miles around the UAE and into Oman through safaris, deserts and up to the highest point in the country. We spent the week travelling in a group of 6 people from different walks of life who would more than likely never meet each other otherwise and it was honestly the perfect group, such a riot! Thanks a lot to Andy @74promotions for sorting it out and thanks to @samhairwolfryder for bringing me along! Then on to the Abu Dhabi @f1 @grandprix over the weekend which was just wild! Thanks to @redbullracing for hosting us. Getting to watch the start of the Grand Prix from the garage was amazing! @xdannixpussx has came to meet me in Dubai for a week in the sun before we head home for Christmas, what an end to the working year, feeling hugely grateful 🥰 @jodiekiddoffical @simonkidston @rosie.kidston @74promotions @samhairwolfryder @nathanrainbowjones @chrisjacksongetty @the110life @ewancairns @paigelphillips & everyone else we met, yous are all legends!

“Out of Office”

What’s it like to cover 1,000 miles through deserts and soaring modern cities in a 1963 Mercedes 300SL Roadster?

The Middle Eastern Mille Miglia is more freestyle than its Italian namesake. Forget the pre-dawn starts, post-midnight finishes and occasional downpours (especially if you’re in a topless car): everything here moves at a different pace, to a backdrop of sun, dust and vast, empty spaces. The locals are friendly, curious and enthusiastic: they’ll drive up next to you on the freeway, honk their horn, lower their window and congratulate you before veering off at full speed across multiple lanes. Speed limits appear to be suggestions although beware of cameras everywhere which can apparently fine you (by direct debit) for speeding, texting, or even eating whilst driving.

The entry grid? Imagine a cosmopolitan version of Whacky Racers: from Germany, a 300 SLR constantly tended by a crack team from the Mercedes Museum; from America big V8 sedans and wafting Bentleys; from England a 1926 Bugatti Type 35 almost carried to the finish by its jovial crew, from India a complete set of vintage Rolls-Royce Phantoms…120 entries in all, a century of car designers’ imagination.

Who actually won didn’t really concern us, but our impromptu convoy of Rolls-Royce Corniche, Shaguar and Merc survived until the end with nothing more than local 98 octane and new front tyres for the Jag. The Rolls is surprisingly agile (the fuel gauge apparently goes down as the a/c goes up), the Merc pulls like a train and never needs more than four gears. It felt like the perfect car for the job and the landscape.

Thanks to the Octanium team who put the show on the road, and to everyone who came to say hello, from the fancy golf club where we all started to the remote roadsides where they would somehow appear from nowhere. Cars do bring people together 👍🏻

Didn’t do #tge22 this year but made the effort to go see the fabulous Fable at Pelirocco on Saturday lunchtime. It’s quite something to bring it in a hotel bar with the curtains drawn on a hot sunny afternoon but bring it she did 🖤🖤🖤
