A bit of a late post, but I wanted to share and highlight everyone’s effort in contributing to last year’s holiday donation to assist a local nonprofit, Partners Against Violence, which provides services and support to survivors of sexual violence. When we were asked to see if we could participate in the holiday donation, our initial goal was to raise $100 as there were only two weeks left to fulfill the donation timeline, and with everyone’s ongoing support by sharing the post, donating how ever much they could, we were able to raise a little over $600. That meant we were able to assist 6 families in need all because of your generosity.

With that being said, it is also important to recognize that sexual assault does not only impact the individual but family and friends. Although the stats vary between 1 and 3 or 1 and 6 women experience sexual assault and most often than not, they knew the perpetrator. Sexual violence is not new. It’s been a longstanding epidemic that has been attempted to be silenced by instilling blame, fear and threat on victims, for actions that weren’t theirs but by others. What is happening in the Jiu Jitsu community is sadly not new either. It’s disheartening to hear how this sport that teaches empowerment is also encouraging silence and taking advantage of their role as coaches, mentors, confidants.

I’m sorry no one listened before. I’m sorry no one spoke up on your behalf about the matter and checked in on you. I’m sorry they casted judgement. I’m sorry they tried to silenced your voice. For those that are speaking out, and those who may not be ready, I believe you.

As the holidays are approaching, we have been fortunate enough to be asked to participate with one of communities that provides support for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence by donating money.

Unfortunately, we won’t have enough time to do the toy drive, but there’s another way we could help out.

How? Lemme tell ya!

If we could get at least get 20 people to donate $5.00, the money we raise could help a family receive some gifts, or other necessities for the holiday!

If you’re interested in donating, please respond via DM to share how and where to donate.

Goal is to raise as much as we can before 12/18!
