Independent film needs a collective voice. That’s why Future Film Coalition exists.

Our latest newsletter looks at collective action across the industry: the community-backed bid to buy Letterboxd, the bipartisan push for a federal production incentive, and growing calls to restore financial interest and syndication rules (Fin-Syn).

What could these efforts mean for the future of independent film?

IBT 1 president - discussing working conditions for delivery workers and the future of organized labor -important conversation about the Delivery Protection Act Sponsored by @tiffany_caban that would create a licensing system for certain last-mile warehouses and distribution facilities while establishing new safety, training and labor standards. The legislation( supported by @nycmayor ) would rein in the power of corporate delivery giants like Amazon, hold them accountable for their exploitative business model and make New York City’s streets safer for workers, drivers and pedestrians!!!@whomovesamerica theatrical release by @8.above -congratulations to @jonreiss for helping to get this important message out !!! #solidaritydelivers #whenweorganizewewin

On On Production, Jon Reiss makes the case that distribution and marketing must be line items:

If you don’t budget for it from the start, you’re never going to get the money. And if you raise it and don’t protect it, it disappears into production. The plan has to come first.

On the latest episode of On Production, we’re getting into the state of indie film and what it actually takes to build a sustainable future for it.

Jon Reiss and Marjan Safinia join Cameron to break down how financing, distribution, discoverability, and audience behavior have shifted—and why the biggest challenge for independent filmmakers today isn’t getting a film made, it’s getting it seen. They also discuss the work of the Future Film Coalition and why collective advocacy is becoming just as important as making great films.

If you work in independent film or care about where it’s headed, this one’s for you. Full episode out now. 👉 Link to podcast in bio.

A new episode of On Production is coming soon.

Jon Reiss and Marjan Safinia of Future Film Coalition join Cameron to talk about the structural pressures reshaping indie film right now—financing, distribution, discoverability, and the persistent myth that landing on a major platform means the hard part is over.

Spoiler: there’s no one coming to save you. But there is a better way to think about it.

Full episode drops tomorrow.
