With @natgeo and @lindbladexp we spent ten straight days of sunlight in polar ice — raw and beautiful and full of some of the most uniquely innovative adaptations of the animal kingdom. Leaning back and gazing up at glaciers, questioning how — from way back on the ship — they seemed any smaller to us than mountains.

Throughout the history of this place, we’ve justified a moral distance between the riches we take and the increasing orders of unintended consequence that follow in our wake. A land of blubber and ivory and coal and dreams of fresh starts or limitless wealth. Unclaimed by any one, and so claimed by anyone.

The commons isn’t just a pond anymore — and if you haven’t felt that yet, I’m sure you’re aware that soon enough, you will. And, even here — standing immersed in the middle of it — one of the most powerful products of nature is reduced to a far away, cream-colored dot. Welcome to Svalbard, the sharpest edge of the paradox.

So what does responsible polar travel look like? Story with @piersgreatperhaps out now in @travelandleisureasia

Amazing time attending the exclusive unveiling of the new @natgeomuseum with fellow National Geographic Explorers and National Geographic staff last week. Honored to be part of this incredible group of people who are making the world a better place and to have my work featured in the museum. Thanks to everyone at National Geographic who made this happen (seriously, congrats to you all!) and hosted us for a wonderful event.

Last week I was invited to attend my fourth (is it four already?) annual Explorers Festival hosted by @natgeosociety in Washington, DC! To say it was a blast would be an understatement- this event is something I look forward to every year, as it gives me a much-needed recalibration on my creativity, ambition, and hope meters.

Although not all Explorers attend each year, the festival is an opportunity to reconnect with beloved colleagues and meet new Explorers. This year, of course, there was a very special moment we all got to share together. More on it soon!

Peep at the end my colleague, friend, and mentee @manals_media as they wear what is known as the precious ‘DIT glasses’ during our monthly (this time in-person) meeting. It was such a treat to see you while I was in town ✨

Words like “icon” and “legend” get thrown around a lot.

All I’ll say, as someone who’s spent a not-insignificant amount of time in @willsmith’s company, is that he is as courageous, curious, funny and generous as you’d hope him to be - on camera and off. Reliving some of the gnarly moments we shared in Antarctica honestly just made me smile.

The way people have embraced #PoleToPole - the reviews, the messages, the families watching together around the world - is a testament to the man himself, and to the brilliant teams at @natgeo, @disneyplus and @nutopiatv who built this magnificent series around him.

Whatever comes next, working on this project will always be one of the great privileges of my professional and personal life. ❤️
