Here’s what I wish I would have done with my son!

But first save this for when you take your littles surfing!

My husband learned to surf at 8 years old and I learned to surf at 9. My daughter just stood up on her first wave at 2 years old and it melted my heart! There’s nothing better than showing your kids things that you love and then they start loving it too!

Here are some tips that I have for toddlers starting out surfing!

✨This is the biggest one and one we should have done with our son, wait until they’re ready. It might be hard to just try and get them on the board but if they’re not ready or uncomfortable, you could ruin the sport for them. We started our son pretty early on and he wasn’t ready yet. Now he’s just starting to like surfing but it took@years for him to be comfortable to go.

✨ Go somewhere with baby waves and that’s shallow, preferably with sand.

✨ Make sure to have a big foam board when starting out. They’ll feel more comfortable on a bigger board and if they fall, they’ll fall on a soft part instead of the ply glass.

✨ Practice paddling and standing up on the beach before they get on the board. You can outline the board for them in the sand.

✨ Go with friends or cousins! We went with my cousin, who happens to be a surf instructor, and his son and our boys loved surfing and being on the board together!

✨Let them feel the wave first by catching one and just lying down. The next wave, you can practice standing up if they want to. Again, it’s what they’re comfortable with.

✨ Make it fun! Sing songs, have them practice standing and jumping off the board when you’re waiting for a wave.

Ok you guys know I had to put together a blooper reel too. Falling off a surfboard is def much easier on the body than skating fails. 😂😂😂
@jerryschaefer is a great instructor and super patient! Shockingly, There were way more wins than bails! Check the out my other surf reel too!

Finally got around to creating a reel of our surf lesson with @808surfschool ! @jerryschaefer was our teacher and he was so patient and encouraging. I can’t wait to surf again!!
