POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

What started as a dissertation 7 years ago has now become this: an e-book in the form of an album.

Not just something to read.
Not just something to hear.
But something to move through.

You’ll find the music, the lyrics, and the process—videos, reflections, fragments of how this all came together. It’s like an e-book meets an album on Spotify/Apple Music… meets the director’s cut scenes from a DVD. The full story. The making of it all. A living, breathing archive.

And from the beginning, the intention was always this:
to make it accessible to the community. So it’s free.
Because this work—this knowledge, this sound—belongs to us. And truthfully… this didn’t happen alone.

To the Space Program: you know what this is. You know what we’ve been building. I carry y’all in every frequency of this.

Deep gratitude to Sara Cohen, Michael Hylton, Kianna Delly, Danielle Coty-Fattal, Haley Winkle, Loren Kajikawa, and the entire University of Michigan Press team for holding this with care and helping me bring it into the world.

Much love to the Ohio State Open Monograph Initiative for supporting the vision. And much love to Bettina Love, Regina Bradley, Jabari Evans, and M. Billye Sankofa Waters. Thank you for reading, listening, and engaging this work with intention.

This project sits at the edge of what we call scholarship… but for me, it’s really about coming back home.
To sound.
To memory.
To us.

It’s about creating in the midst of anti-Blackness and still choosing care, still choosing beauty, still choosing freedom.

It’s about asking:
what does it look like for hip hop to be the text?
for the album to be the book?
for our ways of knowing to be centered—without translation?

I hope this opens doors.
I hope this gives language, permission, and possibility to the next generation of hip hop and Black studies scholars to imagine beyond the page.

This is my offering.
To the people. To the culture. To the future.

If it resonates with you, I’d appreciate you sharing it: send it to someone, post it, sit with it in community.

Welcome to Curriculum of the Mind (link in bio). Much love!
