This purpose of this trip was more than just to climb Kilimanjaro. Getting to experience the work that @run4water_ does is hard to put into words. We visited a well that Run4Water built in a Maasai Village that had fallen into disrepair. (They will arrange for someone to come back and return the well to better working order.) Seeing the important life changing effect water has on a village of 100 families is eye opening. Run4Water has built and repaired countless wells in over 7 countries. But their work doesn’t stop there.

We returned to this village the next day and I got to witness the @84_days_ program in action. Miss Terry (the only female teacher at this school in the Maasai village) gathered 50 young girls and their mothers to learn about female reproductive health. They gave out feminine products (reusable and handmade by women in Uganda) and tooth brushes. Basic amenities we take for granted. The kind and inquisitive nature of these women was inspiring.

I’m also grateful to witness my friends of 10 years, @harveylewisultrarunner and @ngarmstrong in their element. Hearing more about Run4Water , what they do and seeing Greg in action here in Tanzania is so cool. He has changed so many lives (countless) by doing the work he does. Also seeing Harvey in his environment with kids makes me realize he was truly meant to be a teacher. He unflinchingly shared his joy of running with the young boys at the school. He ran for two hours with them around their village. After the 84 Day program wrapped up he came back and coaxed me and the young girls to run. We flew around a dusty loop weaving in and out of bomas and spiky ground plants. The pure joy and curiosity of the kids is something that will stick with me forever.

Today we rest and prepare for our trek on Kilimanjaro. Our friend and guide Isaac said climbing Kili is even a big deal to Tanzanians. Excited to experience this with new and old friends and witness the pure endurance of his incredible team.

First pic is by @harveylewisultrarunner and an award winning capture.
