POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Last week marked our most successful week in business to date, and I’m still taking it all in. The long days, late nights, and endless prep lists are worth it when I step back and see what we’re building. Every event, every client, and every opportunity reminds me why I started. A special thank you to @meetnky for including us in such a wonderful event!

Here’s to full calendars, tired feet, and getting to do what I love every single day.

Cook Like a Mother. 🖤

Behind every course at A Grateful Plate was a chef who brought their own story, creativity, and heart to the table.

We’re incredibly grateful to Shelbi Nation, Marni Slack, Skyler Hill, Salimah Abdul-Hakim, Jessica Baston, and Kayla Robison for sharing their talents and creating a dining experience that was about so much more than incredible food.

A Grateful Plate was an unforgettable evening built around community, collaboration, and the belief that gathering around a table can create something bigger than any one of us.

Thank you for the hours of planning, prepping, creating, plating, pivoting, and pouring yourselves into every detail. A Grateful Plate would not have been A Grateful Plate without you.

We’re grateful for the food you made, but even more grateful that you said yes to being part of this table. ❤️

The second-to-last photo is from about 14 years ago.

I was about 20. My mom had just passed, I had lost almost 60 pounds, and I was completely lost. I answered a random Craigslist ad for my first real kitchen job outside of LaRosa’s, having no idea it would change the trajectory of my life.

Renee was my first chef and the first woman who made me want to become one. I didn’t know what a lentil was. I barely knew how to hold a knife. But every time she stepped into that kitchen, I soaked up everything I could. She was fierce, creative, and her flavors blew my mind.

More importantly, she taught me that food could carry people with it. She held her elders close and honored them through the food and businesses she created. Her grandmother’s fork became a symbol of that care throughout her space. Years later, I would tattoo that same fork on my arm.

I didn’t realize then how much of Renee I would carry into the chef I became.

Today, my own work is rooted in the women who came before me; their recipes, stories, traditions and the feeling of food that tastes like home. Cook Like a Mother grew from my belief that those things deserve to be remembered, celebrated and passed forward. Now I get to teach young cooks who walk into my kitchens.

There’s something beautiful about that full circle.

Renee found me during one of the most lost versions of myself and gave me somewhere to put all that grief and curiosity.

She gave me purpose. She lit a fire under me that still hasn’t gone out. Every woman chef has a woman who showed her what was possible.

We are less than a week away from A Grateful Plate, and the LIVE Auction is bringing something seriously delicious to the table.

Chef Jessica Baston, owner of 86xList, is donating a private Paella Night for six, valued at $1,200. Think bold Latin American flavors, restaurant-level dining in your own home, and an evening designed entirely around good food and good company.

Chef Jessica and her team will bring the full experience to you, preparing a Latin American-inspired paella dinner in your home, complete with service, plateware, and kitchen clean-up.

This is just one of the incredible experiences you’ll have the chance to bid on at A Grateful Plate on September 20, where we come together for an unforgettable night in support of the Power to Pursue Scholarship Fund.

Want a seat at the table and a shot at taking this experience home? Tickets are still available. Grab yours at the link in bio.

Two years ago, I met this crew through @chef_k.nared at a @chefandcoffeecincy meeting. I saw the drive immediately.

I started hiring them for my own events, then watched them find their way into kitchens all over downtown.

This weekend, we sat around the table at @losantisteakhouse celebrating them as graduates. 🥂

From meeting them as students to watching them become the next generation of this industry… yeah, this one felt pretty damn full circle. 🤍

Proud is an understatement.

Some endings don’t break you.
They introduce you to yourself.

I stopped waiting for permission and started creating my own opportunities.

The best views were waiting on the other side of goodbye.

1 Night, 12 Kitchens- our annual charity event to raise funds for future @cincystatecollege culinary students- a program I once benefited from and now have the privilege to work with my best friends in my old classroom with current students teaching them about unique ways to think outside of the plate. @foodbrushninja taught them how to make his Chino Rican noodles and how to work with a wok while @jbindakitchen and I shared with them our travel experiences and how it's influenced us to play more with mushrooms!

Special shout out to @torilubecki and Crossroads for the R&D and inspiration ❤️🙌 @chef_works for the full fit of the day 👩‍🍳

And to my kickass editor @kaylajstanley who helps keep me on social media 😆
