Escape from L.A. (1996) sees Kurt Russell return as Snake Plissken, this time thrown into a dystopian Los Angeles cut off from the rest of America. Bigger, stranger and more over-the-top than Escape from New York, it takes Snake through a wild apocalyptic version of L.A. 🌴

I’ll start by saying that compared to the first movie, this isn’t considered a great sequel or, to some, even a good movie. I wasn’t a big fan when I first saw it either, and that opinion stuck through several rewatches over the years. Revisiting it recently, though, I found a lot more to enjoy. The CGI hasn’t aged well, but I can forgive that as a product of its time. Kurt Russell is still brilliant as Snake, and I love the characters, costumes and overall look and aesthetic of L.A. My biggest issue is how closely the plot follows Escape from New York, which is still the superior film. But if you can put those issues aside and enjoy it for what it is, there’s a lot of fun here. Definitely worth revisiting if you wrote it off years ago!

Me:
“Hold on… this intro is generational trauma and nostalgia combined. I can’t skip this.”

90s kids turned gym rats understand:

Cartoon Network’s Dexter’s Laboratory is an iconic 90s cartoon, and was at the top from 96’-2003. Some say that its style of animation and storytelling redefined 90s cartoons. 🤷🏻‍♂️ For sure one of the best!

Took this Nike SB Dunk, ripped off the lateral swooshes, and made some squiggly drippy ones- then stitched them back on. Many of us grew up with Shannen Doherty.

We loved seeing you in the early 1980s on Little House on the Prairie and Girls Just Want to Have Fun. In this part of our lives, we were having our first crushes and first kisses. We watched you say goodbye to Walnut Grove and hello to Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt.

We experienced the awkward transition from high school to college and then to young adult hood in the 1990s.

90210 and Charmed were there for us when we were experiencing young adult heart breaks and having our first children.

We never lost touch. We would often catch up when we saw you on Dancing with the Stars, Lifetime movies, and even a Hallmark Christmas special.

We were thrilled when we saw the reboot of BH90210. It felt like a high school reunion for us, too.

We often would Google to find out how you were doing. We were saddened to hear of your passing. But, many of us smiled when we thought Brenda & Dylan were back together again.

Thank you for the memories, Shannen! We cherish the time we spent with you.

Until we meet again.

Loved charmed eversince it aired and watched charmed religiously! When the theme song came one everyone knew, homework was done, the dishes were done put away, outfit for tomorrow laid out, 🛁 showered blowed out my hair all done before the show came on! To fully be watching 👀 my favorite show!

The Crow (1994) is an action/fantasy movie starring the late, great Brandon Lee. Adapted from the comic created by James O' Barr.

The night before his wedding, musician Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) and his fiancée are brutally murdered by members of a violent inner-city gang. On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger. Tracking down the thugs responsible for the crimes and mercilessly murdering them, Eric eventually confronts head gangster Top Dollar (Michael Wincott) to complete his macabre mission.

Such a deeply touching and sad tale. Brilliantly acted by Lee and such a tragedy that we lost him during this time. I have loved it since first watch and it's certainly one of those titles that stays with you for such a long time after viewing.

I don't have many thoughts on the remake. Other than to say I feel it to be a bit.. pointless? It could be a good film but I just don't understand it's purpose in existing. Sometimes I feel that way about many remakes sadly. Anyway, The Crow is a very special film and for 90s it was iconic then as it is now. "Can't rain all the time..."
