A first date is not a job interview, a sales pitch, or a therapy session. 😅 And yet, I hear the same feedback from women about why they don’t want a second date: They felt interrogated instead of engaged with. They heard more about someone’s yacht than his personality. The conversation turned into a complaint session, or got sexual before there was enough connection to support it.

The common thread is that the date stopped feeling like an opportunity to discover each other. You want to create a feeling. Curiosity. Ease. Laughter. A little flirtation. The sense that spending more time together could be genuinely enjoyable.

One of the most valuable parts of private matchmaking is the feedback process. I speak with both my client and their date after an introduction, which can reveal so much about how someone comes across and what might be getting in the way of the connection they want.

Because sometimes, the difference between a first date and a second date isn’t who you are. It’s how you make someone feel when they’re with you.

Your turn! ♥️ What’s a first-date behavior that immediately makes you less interested in seeing someone again? And what’s something that makes you want to see them again? Tell me in the comments!

If you have a dating, relationship, divorce, or co-parenting question you’d like me to answer on the Love Line, send it to hello@jillinit.com. Your question could be answered anonymously on the air! 💌

Christine Lee wasn’t feeling her @comfrt quarter zip as much as her beloved hoodies, so she gave it away on @965tic — @court.lessard scored the swag and Christine scored a #ComfrtTwin for life! 🩷🩷

Dating someone with children means understanding that their relationship with their ex doesn’t just disappear when the marriage ends. They’re still co-parents, and the way they navigate that relationship can tell you a lot about how they handle responsibility, respect, and boundaries.

But there’s a difference between maintaining a healthy co-parenting relationship and leaving so much room for the past that there’s little room for a new partner.

So how do you know where that line is?

💬 We want to hear from you: Would you feel comfortable dating someone who texts their ex every day? What about taking family vacations together? Where do you draw the line between healthy co-parenting and behavior that makes it difficult to build a new relationship?

Share your perspective in the comments.

Or book a call with me to get perspective on your own scenario.
