say hello to my first copperplate etched print ever! Shes a bear made up of three plates, inspired by the wildlife and mountains I lived closely with back home which i yearn to return to. I am truly loving hardground etching and the entire intaglio process because the tactile nature really feels like it lends itself to my style. Its forcing me to slow down and break down my ideas into tangible elements, while offering a level of unpredictability that keeps me excited about it all. I learned the hard way the importance of patience during initial registration. I hope to never spend 2 hours buffing away etched lines in metal again.

Course description:
This study abroad course is for students interested in combining art and science to study symbiotic relationships in the Lowveld bushveld ecosystem of South Africa. Course credit is through RISD, the Rhode Island School of Design, where the lead instructor Dr. Lucy Spelman is Faculty/Senior Lecturer. On location for three weeks in a well-studied biodiversity hotspot that includes Kruger National Park, students will explore the intricate connections among animals, fungi, and plants and their conservation value. The course host in South Africa is Bushwise Field Guides.

‘Bound Botany - New England Fall Ecology Archive’
Handmade papers, ecoprints, and various other organic foraged material

This book is a culmination of the New England fall season plant ecology, represented through foraged pigment, experimental fibres, natural compounds, and preserved organic material. The local ecology offers seasonal colours, textures, and mediums that are bound into an indexical archive focused on material quality, experimental process, and natural collaboration.

I had so much foraging and experimenting with different local plant species to make this book! I learned different experimental methods of paper making, tested how different dye plants reacted with various dye processes, and even preserved pressed leaves with gelatin to maintain their flexibility. Its amazing to explore the difference in home-processed and naturally sourced material. This book will be displayed in the Artists Book Show in Fleet Library during winter session :)
