Yesterday was a heavy day. We said goodbye and celebrated the life of our coworker and friend Cole Dobbs. Drifty boy Dobbs stood five foot nothing but had a presence that was 8 feet tall. I always knew he had been the last one in the car when I’d slide in and get stuck under the wheel. Cole loved life, lighthearted debates about technique and car physics, and sliding sideways. I’ll forever hear, “No, no, no, you see it’s like this…” echo through the halls of the PEC. You knew you struck a chord when he would go quiet and look down, and his smile would go as sideways as his driving and his eyes would light up more than his tires when you said something that hit the right note.
Cole asked me a lot of questions about what I’m doing, or how I was driving a certain car a certain way. I could see questioning in his eyes as he would ponder my answers. He would come back a day, a week, a month later, and half excitedly/ half smug say, “you were right, it worked.” Not many people heard those words from him. I remember being at the skatepark and we were talking about rotation/ spinning. He said, “it’s just like doing a back flip…” Then the little shit just stood there and did a perfect back flip… I was stunned.
Cole spoke softly but carried a a big stick. He was about doing. He was genuine, calculated, and shy. He didn’t open up to a lot of people but to those he did he gave everything. I’m honored to be in that circle.

Drift in peace Danger Dobbs. Drift. In. Peace.
