In 2017, I was working for Charlie Rose.
From the outside, it looked like I had my dream job. I was 25 years old, working at CBS News, and thought I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
The reality was much more complicated.
Almost three years ago, I started making a documentary called BLOWBACK. At first, I think I was searching for answers. I wanted to understand what had happened to me after speaking up — the strange, messy aftermath nobody really talks about.
But somewhere along the way, it became something much bigger.
I found a community I didn’t know existed. I sat with people who understood parts of my life I had never been able to explain. I talked with Thomas Drake about identity, purpose, and what happens when one decision changes the entire trajectory of your life. I met people whose courage and complexity changed the way I see the world.
And somehow, the thing that cost me so much also gave me some of the greatest gifts of my life: purpose, connection, friendship, and the chance to build a company with my best friend.
Blowing the whistle was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Making this film has been one of the greatest joys.
Now comes the fun part: trying to finish an independent documentary in an industry where docs are expensive, Hollywood is broken, and apparently six companies owning everything is considered totally normal and chill.
