✨ CURL TRANSFORMATION ✨
From curls that felt heavy and hidden to a layered cut full of movement, shape, and bounce. 💫
Sometimes the biggest transformation isn’t adding length or color, it’s creating the right shape for your natural texture to thrive. These curls now have more volume, definition, and life from root to end.
The curls were always there. They just needed the right cut. 🤎✂️

Throwback ✨️
Who are we?

We are Props 2 Poetry.

A collective of poets, writers, & storytellers
using words to inspire change in our communities.
We host Workshops, Open Mics, and Poetry SLAMs around the Valley
with an emphasis in the Eastern Coachella Valley.
That is the underrepresented & disenfranchised communities
of Thermal, Oasis, & Mecca North Shore just to name a few.

Since most of our members come from the ECV we are no strangers to the struggle.
Coming from mostly immigrant parents working agriculture and service jobs,
Barely making enough money to pay for rent and feed our families. We share space to listen to eachother and hope to offer healing to our communities

We live in what is called front-lined communities,
Experiencing some of the worst effects of climate change.
-The Salton Sea drying up some Neighboring Communities
Have Higher Rates of Respiratory Illness than other parts of the Valley

We also are experiencing Environmental Racism:
Defined as:
"Racial discrimination in environmental policy-making, enforcement of regulations and laws, and targeting of communities of color for toxic waste disposal and siting of polluting industries"

Our students reporting High Levels of Respiratory Illnesses.
Growing up in Coachella Valley, The city of festivals,
such Coachella Fest/ Stage Coach and other Large scale events
constantly bringing more and more tourist each year.
Reminding us,
That we are here to work.
Gentrification pushing the housing market further out of our reach.
Realtors turning low-income houses in Expensive Air-BnBs.
Pushing people out of their homes and onto the street.

At a young age,
We become aware of the struggle our communities face.
And then we began question…

Is this the way it must be?
How can we take the narrative into our own hands?

Through workshops,
we hope to help our communities
By giving them resources needed to express themselves and to speak up

Through Open Mics,
We create a platform where there is no difference between the audience and the stage.

This is not us giving people a voice.
This is us REMINDING our community
That they already have a voice!

Thank you, Art and Erika @props2poetry @__erikaa.c @2r0poet for putting together this amazing opportunity to connect with other beautiful minds, hearts and souls, for people like myself @big.gutter and @lando760 who absolutely killed it with a freestyle as well💯💯💯everyone did VERY well and gave exceptional level of heart, love and support!

Special shoutout to @_sisepuedesamurai for believing in my abilities and pushing me where I need to be. The gods of LOVE are GOOD and they are present always, the timing is never off for our creator. Love and love hard. Diamonds in the rough, being polished by the fire and pressure of life. God bless🤙🏼

Additionally, thank you @wenss_fl for being the original inspiration for getting me back out there into this scene that I was once so excited for before my blood dulled and smothered my flame. Thank you to @everyone for all the support and words of encouragement 🙏🏼 thank you for the affirmation that I am doing my thing in the right way. Love you my brothers and sisters☯️☮️💟

I’m excited to share that “Salt of the Earth” will be on display May 14th-23rd. The reception will be May 17th from 4-6pm at @marksartcenter . This exhibition delves into the pressing public health and environmental issues stemming from the Salton Sea. The exhibition will feature a collection of community-created installations and individual artist works. It’s the culmination of the year long grant project I’ve been working on with the community and I cannot wait to share all the work they have made.

Shout out to @4reddy from @bluehillstudios for the amazing flyer design! I’m excited to see his work along with @veneb @2r0poet @__erikaa.c @dvmienlpz @lemus_frank @elotepreparado @gutterdoodles @ok_meaty and @c.ramirez2323 all on display with their unique take on this issue 🙌🏽

Did I mention @lastiasmusic will be playing at the reception? 👀
