Finally sharing the trailer for a documentary that is very close to the heart after two 2 years and 7 months in the making without a budget at all. “Mientras Quede Selva” is a film that follows Amado and Yadira to tell the personal stories of the people closest to conservation and their connection to the world around them.

I will be forever grateful to their incredible kindness, everything they taught us and for sharing their stories. Also extremely grateful for @__neblina_, @__naia___ , @puya____ , Emi, Gaby, and @jorge_anhalzer for making this film happen and everyone else that helped along the way! It was such an honor to DP this project and work on this together, what a team!

The film premiered on the Ambiental Film Festival ECOador @festival_ecoador
Two weeks ago it was screened in the International Documentary Film Festival “Encuentros Del Otro Cine” EDOC (Encounters of the Other Cinema)—an achievement that I still can’t believe, I remember going to that film fest years ago and I never thought that my work would be shown there; not even in my wildest dreams! @festivaledoc
And last week it was shown at the International Film Festival of Quito FICQ. @ficquito

It's crazy how focusing on just searching a specific being inside a forest changes the way you look at it and it personally helped me to understand the importance of certain aspects inside a forest.

Focusing on searching frogs during a beautifully romantic rainy night in the Choco opened a whole new spectrum of light to me. Suddenly behind every leaf, rock, trunk and branch there is the possibility of finding frogs. Then I started to realize that depending on certain aspects like the tree, the proximity to water and other factors the species would change. Having this in mind made me become present in a very peculiar and beautiful way, and now I try to focus on searching specific species to understand the forest a bit more.

Thanks to The Neblinas, Jocotoco and Tesoro crew and friends for such a crazy and beautiful experience.

Though #midwales might look green, we still have a long way to go to help wildlife in this area.

It’s important that, when we talk about environmental action and solutions, we bring in everybody. We hear this a lot on national and international scales but we also need to be practicing this in our local communities. It is within our communities that we have influence and a united community can make a huge difference. Communication, consultation and collaboration are essential to effective environmental governance and action, but I think this is currently lacking.

For example, if we’re talking about achieving “sustainable development”, shouldn’t youth participation be an integral component of any decision making body? If we’re talking about river pollution, we need to bring in local farmers, river users, residents etc. if we are to actually combat these issues within a local context.

Governments of all levels keep pushing an emphasis on stakeholder engagement and participatory governance but how participatory is it really?

If we can’t achieve this within a local context, how can we realistically expect to achieve this globally?

PS I’m talking about geographical communities here but I would add that ‘community’ can apply to any group that feel connected (student body, friends you’ve only met over zoom…)
