Before literacy can open doors, it starts with a deeper kind of reading, knowing who you are.

Akpene Diata Hoggar’s story reminds us that education isn’t just information transfer; it’s self-discovery. That’s the foundation dignified work is built on.

An exhilarating journey so far:

As we prepare to open the solo exhibition in Rome, Italy this 13th June ( I won’t be there in person however due to the unfortunate visa struggles which most of us existing in Africa are quite familiar with), I reflect back on the previous exhibitions in which I have been grateful to participate in— whether solo or group, which have been so instrumental in my present explorations.
It has been quite the (un)learning journey for me, truly, in the business and marketing world. I have come to understand(ing) the importance of a mutually beneficial partnership and collaboration. It is so vital. There will be expectations and you should only take on what you have the capacity for, at present. Unless you want to take a bigger risk and go crazy. It really helps to build a longer table and a stronger bridge. And as I do all of this it, I learn to not try to rush to create works. I have to continue to allow the inspiration come knocking when I least expect them in my daily life and human relationships. And as they do, I immerse myself fully into it. It doesn’t matter how long it takes me to create a complete body of work but it is well worth the wait. As I wait, I navigate through my simple life and sometimes complex life, figuring out why I do the things I do in all areas of life. It is a real joy to share the beauty (and ugliness) of art with another whether near or far. It is bitter-sweet to watch your favourite pieces be obtained by someone who collects it. Strange enough, whenever I clear out works, I get this spaciousness to pick up my brush and paint more, naturally. Or even try out new mediums. It is like death, you “lose” something you most cherish but you gain some kind of spaciousness that moves you forward or brings you more present. It is all so interesting.

Scenes from the now. 💐🌸
Growth is the art of letting go and reaching higher all at once. A thousand tiny surrenders that make you new.
It is a silent blooming in the dark. The quiet courage to become more than you ever could imagine.
Keep going ✨
