POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

#WNBL 26/27 has tipped off to a fantastic start with high quality, fast paced games displaying the depths of our local talent. Here are some of the swishes and bricks from Round One according to some fans online.

According to @dean_andrews7_ , @_abbeyellis set the @townsvillefire record for most points in a single game and placed equal 5th on the @wnbl all time list for most points in a game.

@juliamontesano4 and @lozzdogg35 are noticeably absent from the commentary team. We miss hearing Julia’s joy when celebrating the highs and touching on the lows. We miss Lori’s quality over quantity style of insightful and purposeful commentary. Someone call the police cos their omission is a crime.

@tasmaniajewels make history led by returnee @darceegarbin who had 20pts and 6 rebs and @giannakneepkens with 20pts and 8 rebs. The jewel in the crown was seeing Brooke Basham back with 19pts, 8rebs, 3 assists and 4 steals.

Forget the gimmicky rules trialled at the tip-off, just give us replays and coach’s challenges! Not only is it fair, but coach’s challenges in particular can have a huge impact on the game whether it’s a possession or a momentum shift.

The @uccapitals are back! A truly underdog performance in front of a 2,100 strong crown at home made everyone take notice. @amyatwell98 played with freedom, @megg_mcconnell showed her leadership and we got a #WNBA @nyadiewpuoch_ 🧢 photo by @editedarchives

@southside.flyers had to call upon injury replacement and development players like @lucycochrane and @madiryan53 to push the Sydney Flames to the limit. An exciting display of our deep round, local talent shone brightly, led by my Breakout POTY prediction @tessheal_ . Photo by @djbdarren

Abbey Ellis erupted for 47 points as her Townsville Fire won their first game of the season last night against the Adelaide Lightning.

Ellis had 47 points on 24 FGA's, which is nigh on 2 points per shot attempt. She also had 6 steals and was doing all of the dirty work, as well as dropping bombs from deep, to the tune on 7 made three's.

I also wanted to ask her if she had picked up a basketball the last time someone scored more than her in a WNBL game but I thought it would have made the question too messy. She ended up mentioning that anyway! Like I said in another post, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

Then got a great response from head coach Shannon Seebohm.

I can't lie, I'm over the moon with these responses.
