they said things like i wanted my mornings back. i wanted to be present for my kids without checking my phone every ten minutes. i wanted to stop asking permission to live my own life. i wanted to feel like myself again after years of feeling completely disconnected from who i was. i wanted to be more present for my pets. I wanted to be more present for my family. i wanted to travel and see the world.

the money came. it always does when you build something real.

but it was never actually the reason.

it was the freedom to design a life instead of just surviving one. it was getting their time back. their energy back. their sense of self back.

if you’re thinking about building something of your own and you feel guilty for wanting more than just financial reasons. don’t.

sometimes the real reason is simply i want my life to feel like mine again.

that’s more than enough. 🤍

We are very pleased to announce that our new issue has been sent to the printer, and will be available just in time for Christmas!

For 21 skateboarders from across Canada, our last memories of “normal” life are from the @word_zine San Francisco trip last February, just weeks before the Covid-19 lockdown took affect that changed the world. 10 wild days of skateboarding and non-stop partying, while staying at the legendary @greentortoisesf hostel.

Here are some outtakes from the full article coming in our new issue, shot by @nstripphoto.
