Vivian Gay (they/them) is a potter and maker whose work plays with themes of connection, craft, folklore, and belonging. Based in the woods of Plainfield, MA, their current fascination is making utilitarian pottery objects that hold stories.
Vivian’s ceramics are part personal sketchbook and part thought-experiment about form, comfort, and function.

You can see & shop Vivian’s pottery in the gallery now through September.

We are so looking forward to welcoming our next guest artist, Vivian Gay, in August & September!

Come by Sawmill River Arts on Sunday, August 2nd to meet Vivian and peruse their pottery. Their functional pieces, so intricately adorned, encourage connection over simple pleasures - a cup of coffee, dinner with friends, a spoonful of sugar.

Originally a printmaker and 2D visual artist, their love of pottery arose from the realization that everyday objects could be art! They are inspired by intimate moments of sweetness in the domestic and natural world and believe that interacting casually and lovingly with art objects each day invites holders to be more joyful and present in their everyday rituals, bodies, and relationships.

Teapet appreciation post!!!

Here are some of the funky little creatures I’ve collected from local Western Massachusetts potters to use as tea pets. I appreciate the way small-scale sculpture provides a window into a creator’s style and approach to the medium. Vids were shot in early spring, when I could still have tea on the porch without sweating bullets.
