From the founder of R.E.A.L Girlz- Ms. Tammie

As a community advocate, I hear many stories of young people involved in gun violence. However, it hits differently when it's close to home.

Before I’m the founder of R.E.A.L Girlz, I’m a mom. The love I have for the R.E.A.L Girlz family is tripled when it involves my own family or the family we have created with my son's friends or as we call it "our village". Today we said goodbye to a member of that family. Adrionna Brooks West. My son met this beautiful young lady in the 2nd grade and remained friends throughout the years. In high school, they held leadership roles in the YMCA leadership club together and participated in the 2021 Wives of Beaux Debutante cotillion.

As a mother, this breaks my heart to know that a mother has to bury her child over a senseless act of violence. A young life gone way too soon.

My heart and prayers are with the West family, friends, and classmates from the Elizabeth Scott and Elizabeth Davis Families. To see these young adults come to celebrate the life of Adrionna made my heart happy, but also sad for the reunion to be because of a tragedy.

“We are only given today and never promised tomorrow. So make sure you tell the people who are special in your life that you love them.”
