Constantly in awe of how far the Lord has brought me. I could never fully express my gratitude for this university or the village that has supported me through every step, as well as the wonderful community of people I met along the way. This place is so special to me and holds some of my fondness childhood memories, and now adult memories as well.

The Lord has been so near in my time here, and I will cherish my time as an undergraduate student for a lifetime. His provision and gentleness guided me through every season, semester, tragedy, and triumph.

I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to pursue higher education and what the Lord has called me to do, serve the special education population. I cannot wait to have my own classroom in the fall, while also pursuing a Masters in Educational Administration at OU Tulsa!

Live on, University!

4-8-19.

The day my life changed. The day I later found my “Why” in.

Late in my freshman year of high school, my body started behaving differently. I lost my appetite, I couldn’t swallow, and I could hardly breathe. After seeing a doctor and undergoing an endoscopy, we discovered I had ruptured an ulcer that caused a gash running the entire length of my esophagus. That day, I was hospitalized. I spent five days in a hospital room not knowing if I would get better or how long it would take to heal. After my first surgery, I woke up with a feeding tube coming out of my nose. It was the only way I could eat. I had two more surgeries in the days that followed, and during that time there were moments where I truly wondered what my life would look like on the other side of it. Thankfully, the human body is capable of incredible healing and mine did exactly that.

But I did not know then that my experience in the hospital would eventually lead me somewhere else.

Two years ago, after transferring to the University of Oklahoma, I took a chance and joined OU Dance Marathon. I walked into something I didn’t fully understand at first, but it quickly became clear that this organization stands for something much bigger than any one person. This past year, I had the incredible privilege of serving as Vice Chair of Business Development for OUDM, working alongside an amazing group of students who poured their time and energy into this mission. Because of that collective effort, we raised $340,226 for Oklahoma children and the Children’s Health Foundation.

Looking back, it’s incredible how things come full circle. 7 years ago, I was a kid lying in a hospital bed wondering if I would ever feel normal again. On Saturday, I had the opportunity to help raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for children going through battles of their own.

To my team - thank you for trusting me, pushing me, and making this year unforgettable. Let’s keep Wednesdays unpredictable.

FTK, always.
