I didn’t grow up around many Filipinos, and for a long time I struggled with my identity, feeling like there was a certain way I was expected to be in order to fit in.

I think a lot of the diaspora can relate to this feeling, which is why being part of Balikbayan has felt so special. Being able to produce an event that creates space for Filipino creatives and voices feels deeply healing.

Big love to @bamitssam for having me on this and to @harelzfeliciano for co-producing this with me. So many hours, long nights and early mornings went into bringing this together, but seeing it all come together made it all worth it. Grateful to have done it with this team.

Thank you to everyone who helped, supported, and came by the exhibition.

BALIKBAYAN 🇵🇭
when @bamitssam first told me about Balikbayan, I knew it was gonna be one of a kind, forever honoured to have produced this alongside the amazing @jillarcenz.
Shoutout bammy for having me on 🙏🏽 months of work for a lifetime of memories 🔒

To put on for Filipino art is a blessing like no other, I’m left feeling more inspired and driven than ever, being amongst incredible talent, but more than that, incredible friends, is something that I know is only possible through God

Last Saturday at @coolstudio.jpg, we celebrated Golden Year — a night where Filipino artistry and creativity were put in the limelight, supported by a range of Asian-Australian owned businesses, performances and more.

We’re incredibly thankful to the friends, family and community who came through on the night and showed our artists an immense amount of love. We hope you went home having discovered your next favourite independent magazine, a painting for your living room, or your new favourite artist.

Till next time!

Last Friday we hosted unSEEN’s official launch party and brought together over 100 of our favourite people — friends, family, and the creatives we love and admire.

For now, a few thank yous…
@by__hua for the beautiful florals, @intangiblethings_ and @thread._____ on the decks, @sebpas for the spicy paella, @rymondtn @duabakehouse for our celebratory kueh, and @jgatip for letting us display his incredible lights around the stage. And @complex_au , for being so generous throughout the way.

Here’s to everything we’ve got in store – we’re just getting started. 🖤🖤
