Transparency Post , Trigger Warning
In Honor of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, I have felt a tug to share a little slice on this life that I’m blessed to have ❤️

I didn’t know that my happiest days were ahead of me because, at the time, I was drowning in grief and sadness. I had known death and loss before, but this was the first time it had affected an entire community of people around me. Ms. Keme was gone, and everyone was dealing with it in their own way.

I was the strong friend. The “give me all your burdens” friend. The “call me whenever” friend. How could I possibly bother anyone with this?

My attempt was not loud or dramatic. It was subtle and internal, much like my personality at the time. I didn’t take PTO. I didn’t take a different route home. I kept my same routine.

My #7 at Taco Bell with a Pepsi was my typical meal. I wouldn’t dare eat anything else for my last supper. I spoke to all the same people and sent out my usual text messages. I took my cocktail and went to bed, with my AC typically set to 69 degrees.

Very usual. Very typical.

However, God knew that I didn’t have usual or typical angels around me. A signal was sent to my tribe, and they met me at the front door.

It wasn’t my time.

Nothing would ever be usual or typical again.
