Happy #GapYearExplorationMonth ! Our students on East Africa Gap Semester have been having a great time learning and having fun during their Student Planned Module, and we wanted to take this chance to highlight some of the skills students learn during a gap program with ARCC! Please enjoy these photos and videos, some created by student @_annasuro !

The Student Planned Module gives students the chance to take the lead, plan their own adventures, manage a budget, organise transport and accommodation, and work together to make things happen. It sounds straightforward enough… until you’re trying to organise a group, figure out dinner, and make sure someone has actually checked the booking! 😂

Along the way, students learn some pretty useful life skills:

🤝 Teamwork makes the dream work.

💰 How to budget and make decisions as a group.

🗺️ How to plan, organise, and have a Plan B.

🍳 How to cook, make pancakes, and feed themselves properly.

📱 The joys of booking things, using Uber, and double-checking reservations.

🙋 The value of “Ask 3 Before Me” — try to work it out before asking an instructor!

💪 How to solve problems, adapt when things go wrong, and take responsibility.

But it’s about more than just getting from A to B. It’s about learning to trust yourself, compromise with others, step outside your comfort zone, and realise you’re capable of more than you thought.

Not everything goes to plan, and that’s part of the learning. Sometimes the biggest lessons come from the unexpected moments along the way.

This Gap Year Exploration Month, we’re celebrating all the learning that happens when students take ownership of their experiences.

Maybe where we dream: chisels, cuts, molds, sculpts: what we dream. And maybe the dream sleepers place of sleep makes the dreamers dreams real. South Africa // Kenya, /26
