Revolutionizing the way educational institute commercials are made.
This was the second university commercial I had the opportunity to bring to life, from ideation to execution. It was an incredible journey, and I enjoyed every step of the process.
None of it would have been possible without an amazing team that gave their best throughout. Grateful to everyone who made this project happen. ✨

mission ctrl: building a visual identity from the inside of a dome

when we started working on mission ctrl, the brief was simple but the execution was not. the show was happening inside the PIA planetarium, a space that already carries its own atmosphere: retro, technical, slightly otherworldly. so instead of designing something that sat on top of the venue, we wanted the branding to feel like it was pulled out of it.

we went back to 90s tech aesthetics. wireframe domes, satellite grids, the kind of visual language you would find on old control room interfaces or analog tech manuals. it gave us a foundation that felt raw and technical without trying too hard to look futuristic. everything had to feel underground, a little glitchy, a little undone, like signal more than polish.

the typography carries a lot of that weight. we picked a pixelated serif and pushed it into pop punk territory, something that reads as both nostalgic and slightly broken. it is the kind of type you would not expect at a music show in pakistan, and that was the point.

every asset, from the posters to the lineup graphics to the merch, was built to tease the feeling of the night before anyone had stepped inside the venue. raw, techy, underground. by the time people walked through that dome, the branding had already told them what they were walking into.

Looking back, Mission Ctrl was by far the toughest and most arduous thing I have ever had to undertake.

It started with a memory. Me as a kid, neck craned back in a planetarium, staring up at something that felt infinite. That wisp of a feeling was enough. @salorkhan , @vadersnaps and I ventured to Chaburji to visit the venue for the first time, and the moment we stepped inside that dome, something clicked. We didn't say much. We didn't need to. We just knew.

We knew it wasn't going to be simple. But god, we did not know it was going to be this hard.

The entire aesthetic, branding and visual identity was developed by the team at @snapofficial.co , who worked day and night for over two months pushing the standard of what people expect from an event in Pakistan. We didn't want to do anything conventionally. That vision cost us. It bit me in the ass. But I wouldn't change it.

Then came everything that tried to stop it. We postponed, we took a loss, and @taha14farasat who had been away due to personal commitments came back seven days before the show and stepped in to carry a weight that had become almost unbearable. I still remember sitting in the car on show day watching the venue flood with no plan B and Taha just saying we're going to make it through. We did

The moment that stays with me is standing with @salorkhan at soundcheck. Same spot we stood in April when this was just a dream. He looked at me and said, you did it. I couldn't fully feel it then. Most of the show is a blur. But that room, hundreds of people, the dome above us, the history beneath our feet, every artist on top of their game. It felt cosmic.

This was also my last show at @theevntm, a place that taught me everything I know about culture and events. Closing that chapter hurt. But Mission Ctrl was the right note to end on.

To everyone who was part of this, you know who you are. Thank you.

@muazrajput, thank you for being the cheetah that you are throughout this entire fucking endeavor. This one doesn't happen without you.

@kartainhainkuch, thank you for making this absolutely insane aftermovie. You captured something I didn't know how to put into words.

This one was truly for the game.
