Serching for Amani is more than just a documentary it’s a deeply moving story about grief, courage, justice, and the reality of the world we’re living in today. The film follows thirteen year old aspiring journalist Simon Ali as he investigates his father’s mysterious murder within one of Kenya’s largest wildlife conservancies. What begins as a personal search for answers slowly unfolds into something much bigger exposing the devastating effects of drought, climate change, and the harsh realities many communities are facing every day. What moved me most was Simon’s courage and resilience throughout the documentary. Watching someone so young carry pain, determination, curiosity, and hope all at once was incredibly powerful. Despite everything life throws at him, he continues searching for truth and purpose, and somewhere along the way, an activist is born. His strength is genuinely inspiring. The story telling is beautiful, emotional and incredibly important. Every scene feels intentional, every conversation meaningful, and every moment leaves an impact long after the credits roll. It honestly comes as no surprise that Serching For Amani has been nominated for a 2026 News & Documentary Emmy Award. The film is a powerful reminder that African stories deserve global recognition, not just because they are beautifully told, but because they matter🇰🇪🌍✨ @simonali_searchingforamani — The young aspiring journalist at the center of the story @_aroko — Director and impact producer @petergoetz_creative —Producer & Writer @gromlet —Director, producer, and cinematographer @elliotsmomloveslife —Consulting producer and Kenyan filmmaker @drpaulakahumbu —Executive producer @cappuccino222 —Producer Watch it on @worldchannel @aljazeeraenglish @ajwitness Copyright Disclaimer: Clips used in this video belong to the creators and production team behind Searching for Amani and are used strictly for commentary, review, awareness, and promotional purposes. This International Women's Day, we turn the spotlight inward to celebrate the league of women behind PWFF. From our all-female Jury who hold the line between what this industry has always rewarded and what it should be rewarding, to our female-led team who carry our mission, through the logistics, the long nights, the negotiations, the moments nobody posts about and the incredible women on our Baraza whose sage wisdom anchors us, cutting through noise to remind us why we started when the road gets long. These are the multi-national women who constitute the DNA of PWFF and today, we salute these baddies! THANK YOU for helping shape our film festival into a disruptor, a safe harbor for stories that the industry keeps sideling, and in essence, holding space for storytellers at the fringes to come home! PWFF 2026 dates, location and venue dropping soon! Want to be the first to know what we're building? What a journey it’s been! Searching for Amani is now available worldwide with two incredible, award-winning distribution partners ✨🎉 If you’re in the U.S., you can stream the film on PBS World @worldchannel and globally the film is now available via Al Jazeera’s documentary strand, Witness. @aljazeeraenglish @ajwitness To celebrate, we’re sharing a brand-new trailer ⚡️ We want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who made this film possible — from Simon and his family, Haron and his, to our entire team and executive producers, @autlookfilmsales, and the incredible partners at PBS and Al Jazeera… we could not have done this without you! From our very first meeting, Executive Producer and Nat Geo Explorer @drpaulakahumbu with @wildlifedirect made one thing clear: this film had to be easily accessible in Africa. Too often, films are shot on the continent, but the people who live there cannot watch them. From that moment on, ensuring both global and local access became a non-negotiable for us. The strength of this film lies in sharing Simon’s story — and in making sure that story can be seen by everyone. As the Horn of Africa approaches another season likely marked by intense drought, we’re reminded of an essential truth: The people who bear the greatest impacts of climate change are not the ones creating it. And as Simon reminds us, there is power and agency in every story. Use your voice. With love and gratitude, and in tribute to Mr. Ali and Baba Lengus - your legacy, and your children, will not be forgotten. Thank you to PBS and Al Jazeera for helping amplify these stories. ♥️The Searching for Amani team @farstaractionfund @randomgood_films @backroadspictures @tigertales @museum_crane @_aroko @gromlet @rhesus_positive_ @ronnie_mugambi @campbellbrewer
