Winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, The Toxic Avenger is a hilariously rockin’ campy, hot toxic love story and musical comedy. It’s Little Shop of Horrors meets Evil Dead the Musical!

Dive into the over-the-top chaos of The Toxic Avenger, where love, laughter, and a little bit of environmental heroism come together in a outrageous, laugh-out-loud way! The town of Tromaville is plagued by a corrupt mayor and her cronies and a mysteriously growing supply of toxic waste—if only there was an environmental super hero to save the day! Enter Melvin Ferd the Third! Foiled by the mayor’s bullies, Melvin is dumped into a vat of radioactive toxic waste, only to reemerge as The Toxic Avenger, New Jersey’s first superhero. Affectionately known as Toxie, our new hero is a seven-foot mutant with superhuman strength and a heart as big as Newark. He’s out to save New Jersey, end global warming, and woo the town librarian. The Toxic Avenger will leave audiences laughing in the aisles as it rocks the house.

WARNING Content Advisory
This play contains edgy, bawdy jokes, cartoonish violence, adult-themed sexual humor, and adult language and is not appropriate for children.

😍 The Series I Won’t EVER Stop Recommending

Did you ever read a series and fall in love with every part of it? The setting, the characters, the events - all of it is perfection?
So now anytime you re-read that series it feels like going home?

I have so many series like that, but these are ones I’ve reread more times than I can count.

We had a really wonderful opening night talk story panel on Culture and Animation with…

Keikioʻewa Kaʻōpua - Ka haʻaheo & Moʻolelo ‘Loleka‘a
(Screening Sunday 5/18 2pm)

Sasha Hercik- Hands of Stone (Maui Public Art Corps) (Opening night film Friday 5/16 7pm)

Daniel A Kelin II-When I Waked, I Cried to Dream Again (Screening Sunday 5/18 2pm)

It was really special to hear thoughts on, not just creating incredibly important stories, but how each artist weaves language, culture and collaboration into their work.

In the next few days, we will be sharing the full panel.
Stay tuned!

CAFF Springfest 25 – Friday, May 16, 7 PM
After Opening Night, stick around for a special Talk Story Panel.
We’re proud to present a powerful and inspiring conversation on animation and culture, featuring two incredible creators who bring deep authenticity, storytelling, and artistic excellence to the world of cultural animation.

Sasha Hercik – Animator of Hands of Stone
Sasha is a digital artist, animator, and illustrator raised on Maui since childhood. Her focuses include 2D animation and various types of character illustration with a strong emphasis on storytelling. She’s done work for companies like Hot Topic, Maui Public Art Corps, GoZen! Anxiety Relief for Children, among others, along with illustrating a New York Times bestseller. Her long-term goals include working on both animated feature films and shows, character animation for anime, and working with indie studios.

Keiki Kaʻōpua – is a Native Hawaiian artist, cultural and historical researcher, and Hawaiian-language instructor who brings authentic Indigenous stories to life through animation.
With over 30 years of expertise in genealogy and Hawaiian history, he weaves deep cultural knowledge into modern media. As founder of Hoʻoulu Hale Digital, Keiki advises on character design, language accuracy, and culturally respectful storytelling—ensuring every frame honors Hawaiian protocol.
For the past 16 years, he’s served as a Hawaiian Culture Specialist in the Hoʻokahua: Hawaiian Cultural Vibrancy Division at Kamehameha Schools. There, he teaches ʻŌlelo Kahua (foundation language) classes and creates short animations to support language learning. He’s also contracted to develop Hawaiian cultural videos for state child-support agencies and their partners, and served as a cultural advisor on PREL’s E Hoʻomau series and is also the Producer and Writer of the animated short film Ola Nā Iwi: Hāloa.

CAFF Springfest 2025 – A Blooming Celebration of Animation! At the world famous Honolulu Museum of Art Doris Duke Theatre!

Friday May 16, 7pm
Opening Night: Animation Springtacular!

Featuring:
Hands of Stone by Sasha Hercik
In 2021, Anuhea Yagi participated in our collaborative Hui Mo‘olelo program with Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House/ Maui Historical Society. In 2022, we captured this audio-recorded talk-story between she and Hōaka Delos Reyes, an expert in the field of stone-on-stone carving (kālai pōhaku). In 2024, professional artists from across the globe submitted proposals to translate this story as a work of public art. Upon selection by a community panel, artist Sasha Hercik entered a period of project development to meet the storytellers, learn more about the context of their story, and infuse the evolving design with a sense of place distinct to the recording.

Kick off the festival with a family-friendly night of fun, laughter, and breathtaking animation that celebrates the global art of storytelling!
ists, languages, and traditions in a colorful celebration of creativity.
$10 General, $8 HOMA Members, 18 and under FREE
