September 23rd • She turned 21.

Ava Jacqueline… The one who made us parents. The one we have learned how to do this big thing called parenthood with. 2005 literally feels like it should be just a few years behind us, but somehow it’s not. Back then we had hopes and dreams for who she would one day become, and yet she is more than we could have ever dreamt of. She is every bit of creative as we thought she might be, yet her ability to create and make beauty spans far beyond what our minds could fathom. She’s every bit of the perfectionist we thought she would be. She is every bit of determined we could imagine. She is every bit of loyal we could see in her at such a young age. She is also an adventurer beyond what we could have ever guess. She is not just smart, but she has positioned herself as a lifelong learner by choice. She is not just loyal, but a faithful friend. She is so much wrapped up in one human there would honestly never be enough words. It would be tempting to take credit for who she is and who she has become… but, the truth is, we were just two young parents trying to figure it out and prayerfully doing our best. She is evidence of Christ poured out upon her. She is truly walking and breathing testament to the fervent prayers of a mother and a father. There is honestly not a day that goes by that we don’t stand in awe that we have gotten a front row seat to her life. Twenty one feels big, but I cannot wait to see what this year brings. Happy Birthday, Ava J… from day one you have been the surprise of a lifetime, you were a lifelong dream delivered exactly when we needed… A game changer in all the right ways. Forever grateful and honored to be your mama. Year twenty one… here you go!

Being chosen is not about someone making one grand declaration. It is about the quiet consistency that follows. The calls they return, the promises they keep, the way they make space for your feelings, and the certainty they bring into ordinary days. Healthy love does not leave you constantly searching for reassurance. It teaches your heart that care can be steady, clear, and safe.

That kind of love changes you gently. You stop preparing for abandonment and begin trusting that something beautiful can remain. You speak more honestly, dream more freely, and allow yourself to be fully known. Because the warmth of being chosen is not only knowing that someone loves you. It is knowing they continue to choose the life you are building together.
