Last month I had the amazing opportunity to travel with @uccahsstudyabroad on their service abroad trip to Costa Rica. I travelled to communities within Upala, Los Chiles and La Victoria and others. We visited many different types of border crossings both offical and unofficial between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. While there we learned about the history and challenges faced by the migrant populations. As a group we funded 2 murals painted at a bus stop right before the Costa Rica/Nicarugua offical border crossing. These murals translate to "borders divide, bridges unite" and "all under the same sky". It is a reminder of community and compassion. We spent time with seniors at a day center where we got to hear their stories and connect through art. My favorite part of the trip was visiting the school in La Victoria. The students participated in a activity where they drew what their sky looks like and remembered how although we live far apart we all live under the same sky. I also got to visit the local hospital in Upala and while learning about their healthcare system I got to interact with patients as they waited to be seen. There is a ongoing project at the hospital where they are integrating art to help the community create a more positive experience with visiting the hospital. Prior to this trip our group hosted fundraising opportunities so that when we made it to Costa Rica we left leaving a impact. We were able to donate another sewing machine to the ladies community in La Victoria. They use this sewing machine to make different types of tote bags and sell them at local markets. While on this trip I was continually reminding of how kind everyone was to us. They did not care if we spoke their language perfectly they were just happy for us to be there. I learned so much in such little time. Thank you to @uccahsstudyabroad and @studyabroadcostarica for the opportunity. Costa Rica I miss you already and will be back soon 🇨🇷❤️

These past few days in Costa Rica have already changed my perspective so much. At the C.C.S.S Hospital in Upala, handing out coloring sheets brought so much joy to the patients and families, and it reminded me how meaningful small acts of kindness can be.
At the school in La Victoria, I had my first real conversation through Google Translate with a 15 year old girl, and even with the language barrier, it was really special being able to connect. Today was also meaningful in a different way by getting to support a local family owned ziplining business and experience more of the community and culture here.
Experiences like these are teaching me that connection and compassion can go far beyond words.

BearcatThon 2026 was a massive success 🐾🐾

I am so incredibly proud to help run such a amazing organization along side students as passionate for this cause as I am. Getting to spread awareness about the amazing work done at Cincinnati Children's Hospital through our amazing champions stories is such a honor.

I would not have been able to do this without the support from my parents, especially my mom who has been my rock this entire year. Thank you to my family and friends for the continued support and donations throughout the year.

So excited to run this program again next year and give these amazing kid the chance to share their stories and shower them in love!

See you next year UCDM 🐾❤️
