The Abu Rida family needs your support. 💔

We are 10 people living in dire circumstances, caught between Egypt and Gaza, with no stable income or regular aid. Our family in Gaza lives in a tent, and we in Egypt struggle to provide food, rent, and basic necessities.

We are from Khuza'a, and we lost our home and everything we owned.

2025 was certainly a year! I had a bunch of heart break, and I’m thankful for what it taught me, for the poems it helped me write, and for the depth of feeling I experienced.

I embraced flourishing relationships and friendships, new and established. My two wonderful book groups (@avidreader) and two nourishing open mics (@echoes_fromthecave & @speak.easy_poetry) were foundations of my year, giving me love, joy and community.

My very first children’s book was released - a dream come true! Hearing people’s stories of how much their kids love it fills my heart. ❤️ 🌈

I started pet sitting as a side hustle and it’s brilliant! Coworking with cats is one of the most rewarding experiences (though they don’t give great feedback on poems 😹)

I joined the team at @tranz.radio on @4zzzradio! It’s been incredible to work with a passionate group of fellow trans and gender diverse people on radio. Considering all the transphobia in the last year, it’s a huge privilege to be able to report on news and events and keep people informed, as well as foster community. I love being trans and I love our trans community! 🏳️‍⚧️

@upliftpoetryy has only grown stronger and more community focused - we now have over 1700 subscribers. And at @enbylife we published over 20 creatives throughout the year, all funded by our generous supporters. Both these projects will have exciting new ventures this year, including themed submissions for @enbylife!

Here’s to 2026! Free Palestine! 🇵🇸
Trans rights are human rights! 🏳️‍⚧️

so i tabled as an official zine distro for the first time at @Sticky_Institute's Festival of the Photocopier this past weekend! it's always beautiful when the big annual zine fair kicks off the start of the zine adventures calendar and everyone is reunited at least once throughout the year.

it's a steady combo of euphoria and exhaustion which I think balances out the experience. I met fresh new faces and saw fresh old ones. zines were rehomed and some badges were giggled at. thank you to Sticky the zine defenders. I'm so grateful for all the hard work you put into this every year. I like town halls and Kensington's one was a nice one. zine love 💌

Did somebody say trans joy? The inaugural @transbookfestival was a roaring success. My heart is full from all the togetherness, laughter, smarts, and mutual appreciation. I surely was not the only one in the room to tear up at least once in every session. Biggest thanks to @samhellkini for putting in endless hours as voluntary Festival Director. It never would have happened without your vision, leadership, creativity and damn hard work. Thanks also to TGV and @sonasterisk for supporting the festival, and thanks to @viccommissionerlgbtiq for a heartfelt opening address. As Commissioner Joe Ball said: “To the trans writers in the room: you are world builders for people you will never meet…you are also recording our histories so they will always live on.” 🏳️‍⚧️💙🩷🤍🩷💙🏳️‍⚧️

See you all at the next festival!

Happy Release Day to all the contributors Madison Godfrey (@madfrey), Alexander Te Pohe (@_celestialborn_), Maddison Stoff, Vika Mana (@endlessyarning) and Mia Nie (@girlwithhorn).

Both of us (Alison and Michael) are SO proud of what we've achieved together!

And thank you for the amazing team at @FremantlePress for being champions of this project ever since it was just me complaining about the lack of Trans authors being published in Australia in an Insta story. You just stepped up and let us do whatever we wanted! Especially thanks Georgia Richter our editor and publisher. You really helped us elevate our stories and hone our words.

CELEBRATE WITH US!
There's an ONLINE launch happening THIS SATURDAY 8th of June 6pm AEST supported by @theleafbookshop

FOTP2024 ZINE HAUL - PART 1

It’s been a busy week. I started a new job, then had a stall at the #FestivalOfThePhotocopier on Saturday.

Today has been lots of napping interspersed with reading zines. Here’s the ones that I’ve read so far:

1. WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR IS IN THE (E-WASTE BIN OF THE) LIBRARY by @tegan_ew
An ode to the fully-functional 2007 Macbook Tegan found in her library’s e-waste bin, and intimacy of exploring old DVDs and CDs its working disc drive has opened up. Combines autobiography with a guide to opshopping for old media. This zine gets bonus points for referencing Emma Ruth Rundle’s magnificent ‘Engine of Hell’ album.

2. Three zines by @_budgie (Alison Evans)

EIGHT SUBMARINES compares the cost of the 8 nuclear submarines Australia has committed to buying to the number of Arts grants the same $368 billion could provide.

I WANT TO MAKE A ZINE IN IRISH chronicles Evans’s journey in learning Irish.

BIG PONY ZINE 3 has been described as the pinnacle of all art. This is an understatement. It’s the *pony-cle* of all art.

3. DUNGEON & DRAGONS MISADVENTURES by @thomdoodles_
A comic about the adventures of a D&D party. I like the cute, clean artwork. But mixing a Chaotic Evil druid and a Lawful Good fighter is asking for trouble.

4. DEAF AND DATING edited by Jas Shirrefs
A compilation of stories, poetry and art about what it’s like to date when you’re Deaf. Informative.

5. DRAGON’S DEAREST and MIDNIGHT KISS by @Juimon
Two fantasy comics about queer romance. In DRAGON’S DEAREST, a princess is torn between her duty to marry and the person she truly loves. MIDNIGHT KISS is a wordless comic about a villager and a vampire trying to find happiness in a village that doesn’t accept them. Clean linework with atmospheric shading.
