The Bronx Wall 💐
::
Before the skyline touched the clouds, before the legends filled the record books, there was the Bronx. A place where greatness was forged on playground courts, carried by subway rails, and celebrated beneath the lights of Yankee Stadium. From Dr. J’s flight at Rucker Park to the watchful gaze of Lady Liberty, this mural honors a borough that never asked for permission to become legendary.

Out of 221 submissions from 22 states, only 66 pieces by 48 visual artists representing 18 states were selected for this competition. That is major, baby!
I’m so proud of Lee Valentine, because two of his original pieces were chosen for the exhibition. He continues to put his heart, his story, and his talent into his work, and I’m so proud to see it being recognized.
So, if you’re available on Friday, July 17, pull up and support Lee Valentine at the d’Art Center in Norfolk from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The opening reception is free and open to the public, so come out, show some love, and experience some incredible artwork. You definitely don’t want to miss this!

@leevalentineart 👏🏾you go baby 🎨✨❤️
@dartcenternfk 💯🎨 we appreciate you ✨💯

Life lately. 🫶

The first 30 days at the new Virginia MOCA went a little something like this. Thanks for being here with us. We feel right at home in our new museum—and hope you do, too.

Former CAN Foundation Artist in Residence @matthewstevenpierce is at work on archiving history. We give thanks for this very thoughtful acknowledgment of CAN co-founder @asajacksonart & of the essence of the CAN. The work has always come from a place of passion and for those that understand and have understood the intention, we give thanks. An organization built by artists, for artists, intent on building sustained pathways for the creative class and on knowing anything is possible.

We just moved here, want to be friends?

For the first Community Day in our new home, we brought the moving trucks with us—not to haul boxes, but to turn them into art galleries!

This Saturday, four U-Haul trucks will be transformed into mobile galleries, each one curated by a local art collective:

@757_create
@utopiafeni
@contemporaryartsnetwork
@thevibecreativedistrict featuring @artvabeach & @creativewellarts

Step inside, browse original works by local artists, find something that moves you, and take it home knowing your purchase goes directly to supporting the artist.

Learn more and register for Community Day at the link in bio. 🔗

We’ll see you Saturday! 😎

Love

I experience this in so many ways every day. I know it’s power, I feel it’s energy. Today I was outside playing in the dirt, talking to nature, Under pressure - Queen/Bowie - came on.

Love dares you to care.

Back in December I was taking down my piece from TENFOLD @_canfoundation “Phases”
Dichroic film, glass, hand dyed paper and intentions. I like to bring color and light, experience the interaction within the space.

I had cut the filament of the first phase, moved onto the next, and as I made the cut and was holding that phase, in that moment time did that curious thing where it pauses and lets you think through what you know is going to happen but lets you choose the path that you feel is best for you. I knew that disc was falling through my fingers and I could feel its energy.

It indeed fell and cracked, and it’s ok. I’m a believer in the work will morph on its own.

As I continued to take down the rest, I wondered what intention was on the piece that broke.

Human Kind and Love

These were new intentions I added for this show. For a second I let the negative thought cross my path, and was like nope.

Love can break Human Kind, and can change it.
I feel it, I see it in amongst all the other energies that are not love.

Love

“art is revolutionary, be living art; 🖼️
raise the next generation to feel deeply with their souls & make with their hands, to appreciate those before them who poured beautiful messages from spirit into this earth to share with us all, bravely, defiantly, & against the humanly odds of time, resources, & acceptance. raise the generation who fears not to raise their voices together, solidarity of love, advocacy for art, united for the higher vibration of humanity 💟 “

“Waiting on The Train” is all about being in between places. @_canfoundation TENFOLD showcase, I had the opportunity to chat about what this piece meant to me, and I realized it’s more than just waiting, it’s about being in between places, in between homes and somewhere else, about existing between the known and unknown. And that’s what this year has been to me. It’s transitioning from being “young” to being an “actual adult” , from feeling like a visitor to the 757 to becoming part of the community
