AVA Dance Company’s 10th Anniversary Gala! I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I started AVA and I am so proud that I was able to host this event to celebrate with all of the people that make this community so special 💜✨🪩💃🏻

I’m still smiling thinking about this incredible night and all the amazing people who filled the room. What started 10 years ago as just a dream has grown into so much more than a dance company. It’s a community, a place to find your people, a space to grow, and a reminder of the joy that comes from doing something you love.

Getting to celebrate a decade of AVA alongside our amazing team, dancers, friends, and the people who have been part of this journey means more to me than I can put into words. 🥹🫶

Ten years of AVA and my heart has never felt so full! 💜 🥰 Here’s to the memories we’ve made, the community we’ve built, and all the dancing still to come. Cheers to a decade of dancing in the DMV! 🥂💃🏻

Last night we celebrated 🔟 years of @avadanceco 💜

Being a part of this team and dance community is a dream come true every day and I can’t thank everyone, especially @leahalexis233 and the whole AVA team, enough for all the joy and opportunities AVA has brought me over the last seven years! Cheers to many many more years of dance and everlasting friendships at AVA 🥂

Today marks 10 years of AVA Dance Co.
7 years ago I walked into my first class (a musical theater class with Lizz IYKYK) and walked out sore and knowing I was going to come back. In 2019 I would come 1-2 times a month and started to fall in love with the community.

2020 I put myself out there and was going to be part of AVAs showcase (we know what happened) but AVA did virtual and outdoor classes and some days that was the only time I interacted with people. I looked forward to it every day. AVA saved me.
2021 I became a regular as I started to take my health and dance career even more seriously.
2022 i finally got to perform in AVAs showcase and my community was solidified as was a group chat that will never die.

2024 Leah called me and asked me to join the team and I’ve never looked back.

2025- brought the hip surgery heard around the world

2026, we added the stunning Chelsea!!!!! We are back to dancing at full speed and I am so in love with everyone that walks through our doors

To the AVA Community, thank you for making me smile on my worst days. Thank you for pushing me to be a better dancer, thank you for healing me and welcoming me and allowing me to give the same energy back to you All

To the AVA team- yall know how I feel about you. But I am SO grateful to be part of something so special. And I am so proud of everything we’ve done.

Why are you called Pat’s Garden?

Let me tell you!

Many people knew my grandmother as Nana or Nana Pat because that’s the name I gave her, but she had so many nicknames.

What you may not know is Nana Pat is actually my great aunt and not my grandmother. My mother was raised by her father’s oldest sister (Nana Pat) and when I was born she came to the US from Jamaica to help raise me.

She was a school principal in Jamaica and was an important historical figure in the growth of St. Christopher’s School for the Deaf

When I went to preschool, she was a teacher’s assistant in my classroom.

When I became a teacher, she became my confidant and mentor as I went through college.

Her favorite artist was Bob Marley and she always signed cards saying One Love.

Fun fact: I have a tattoo of her handwriting on my wrist!

When I was a child, she would take care of the garden in front of our house. Hopefully, she’s up in the sky tending to a garden with beautiful flowers.

I’ll handle the flowers here 💐
