This project has always been bigger than a campaign. It’s a movement. A story of innovation, dedication, and resilience.

First film. First festival. First award. 🏆

I keep thinking about something I wrote yesterday.

“I felt like Ciara’s story required a larger stage.”

Today, that story received the Outstanding Social Impact Film Award at the 2026 ESSENCE Film Festival.

I’m overwhelmed with gratitude.

Photography taught me how to observe. Filmmaking is teaching me how to listen. This experience reminded me that when you approach people with curiosity, care, and trust, stories have a way of reaching exactly who they’re meant to.

Thank you to every person who believed in this film before anyone else knew its name.

And thank you, God, for continuing to exceed every expectation I could have imagined for myself.

This is only the beginning. 💜🎬🏆

It's Monday and I am still reflecting on all that Saturday gave us. 🥹

Cornrows & Cornbread: The Revival was everything I dreamed it would be and more. Three years in, and this one felt different. This one felt like home.

😍 And can we talk about my sister surprising me by bringing our MOTHER out to the event?! I am still emotional thinking about it. That moment alone made everything worth it.

To everyone who showed up, sat in that room, danced, ate, laughed, cried, and connected….. thank you. You are the revival. Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom is not only about emancipation—it is also about opportunity, education, innovation, ownership, and the ability to shape our communities.

The history of Black beauty reflects that journey.

From Pierre Toussaint, Annie Turnbo Malone, Madam C.J. Walker, and Rose Meta Morgan, to innovators like Marjorie Joyner and Christina Jenkins, generations of Black beauty professionals built businesses, schools, inventions, and institutions that expanded opportunity for others.

Their legacy continues today through advocates, educators, researchers, and entrepreneurs who are shaping the future of the beauty industry.

This Juneteenth, Beyond the Chair honors the beauty workers, educators, inventors, and community leaders whose contributions helped transform the industry and create pathways toward economic mobility, professional advancement, and self-determination.

Because the history of Black beauty is not separate from American history—it is an essential part of it.
