Fans of Andrew McMahon know the artist to have worn many masks throughout his career spanning the last 25-plus years. For the early adopters, McMahon fronted the rock band Something Corporate before embarking on his own solo project in the form of Jack’s Mannequin. And after an 8-year span that saw three albums released, McMahon retired the Mannequin moniker before beginning on his third musical iteration, Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness.

The through line between all three acts is songs that fluctuate between dynamic and melodic with themes that are always introspective. With a piano as the only instrument on his current tour, McMahon will play an amalgam of tracks from his past and present during An Evening with Andrew McMahon and His Piano at Hi-Fi on October 25.

Royal Pine Boulevard is an unassuming street that winds its way southwest from East 79th Street to Dean Road for about 0.4 miles. If you ever happen upon it, you’ll be surprised to find yourself in a stealth forest of white pine trees towering 80 to 100 feet tall, with attractive midcentury ranch homes peeking from their shadows.

The site of a failed commercial tree nursery in the 1940s and ’50s, the land was unoccupied when homebuilder John Kleinops came upon it and noted it would make a unique residential neighborhood. Born to a carpenter in Latvia, Kleinops, along with his wife and two children, were displaced during World War II.

This time last season, the Indiana Fever were heading into the playoffs as the walking wounded. Down multiple starters while working to acclimate several newcomers to the squad midseason, they managed to take a makeshift roster to just one game away from the WNBA Finals.

A year later, the Fever head into the postseason with a roster that’s intact and has shown the same fervor that took last year’s eventual WNBA champs to five games. The biggest upside, though? They’re now a year stronger and more seasoned in every position on the floor.

And with an eventual playoff matchup against the Las Vegas Aces set to start on Sunday, they’ll need every advantage they can get.
