Thank you to for a wonderful cast and crew for 5/10 done.

See you next week one of the most beautifully lit shorts I’ve had as of late.

Thankful to my brotha @_cuevo_ for bringing me on to a very busy two weeks ish ahead for us.

Can’t show you much of this one yet, but rest assured, it will be worth the wait.

Excited to reunite with @cicidedodo and @jack_fralick on this one too!

Had a great experience shooting on 35mm for the first time and recreating a lighting style I have always wanted to try. We made some texture in the background with a 20x20 silk and some black cardboard and pushed the camera around on a curved track.

Would love to try this again sometime with spears that aren't made of cardboard 🗡

“The initial cost is worth the bigger picture.”

Unit stills and behind the scenes photographed for Billy Su [ @sjh.films ] during @usccinema’s 557 advanced cinematography class instructed by @robertyeomanasc

I will always hold incredible gratitude and appreciation for my Cinematic Arts friends. “You’re here on your off day?” — as Billy so aptly when we started — is the only reason why I’m so good at what I do. Trojans hold that same mentality, and that is why I will always come back to play when I can.

My first mentor Lynne Hale (retired lucasfilm director of PR, 2022) stressed often the idea of focusing on consistency over intensity (“staying ready”) and “painting the back of the fence” when it came to getting to know the next generation. I get to do both here, and that’s priceless.

See you on the next one!

Unit stills from A BOY WITH A BIRD” for @ciara_borgards starring @guyheilweil.

I can’t reiterate how cool it is meeting Ciara as PA once upon a time then somehow finding myself photographing her first big deal.

Not many people know how to direct a movie full of kids, run a tight ship, and still manage to have their humanity be present through it all.

“Remember, you’re only here because I trust you” is the greatest line any creative can get walking into set—but for unit photography it’s truly special, allowing us to be a shadow with no limits.

That is what creates what you see, through how I see.

As my second year as a professional Steadicam and camera operator comes to a close, I’ve been taking time to reflect on how far this journey has brought me.

This year introduced me to some incredible people, friends, collaborators, and artists whose talent and passion continue to inspire me. Being trusted to help support their stories and visions through camera and Steadicam work is something I will always hold dear.

I’m thankful for every opportunity, every long day, every challenge, and every moment that pushed me to grow. I’m proud of the work I’ve put in and appreciate those who believed in me along the way.

Throughout it all, I’m grateful for the path I’ve been given and the strength to walk it.

To everyone who shared a set, offered guidance, or gave me a chance, thank you. Your support has meant more than you know.

Here’s to continuing forward, staying curious, staying hungry, and keeping the camera moving.

Your Forever Friend,
Robert Dutton
