This weekend’s #IconicQueenscapes goes to David Stock @_davidstock_. David is a longtime photographer who resides in Jackson Heights, Queens. David photographs are social landscapes: cultural and political observations of the environments we inhabit, lately and primarily in Queens, NYC. His photos investigate the humor, beauty and unintended consequences of city life, and the drama of our struggle with the natural world. David took the photo above of a random, well humanly sparse day at Travers Park in Jackson Heights, Queens. Make sure to use the #Queenscapes hashtag on all your Queens photos for your chance to get featured here next week! Enjoy the rest of your beautiful Sunday folks!

Today is the last day to view David Stock’s timely photographs in “Heart of the City.” Please join David and fellow art lovers for a closing reception 4-6pm. As a coda to this show, let’s keep David’s words in our collective thinking: “When I moved to Jackson Heights in 2014, this part of Queens, despite facing plenty of economic and social challenges, nevertheless seemed full of optimism. Many residents (and other observers) believed that the melting-pot, immigrant-led dynamism found here was an inspiring model for New York, and the country. But this optimism has now been tempered. At the height of Covid-19, we became the epicenter of the epicenter. Near-empty streets were haunted by non-stop sirens signaling illness, death, and the collapse of vulnerable survival economies. While many households were still struggling to recover from the pandemic, nativist politicians rolled out a series of harsh political attacks on local immigrants, culminating in brutal ICE kidnappings. Many have been deported or pushed into the shadows. Yet New York’s working class immigrants are resilient. Neighbors are helping each other and figuring out how to fight back. Although local street life is repressed, it keeps bubbling back up, because it’s indispensable to the survival and culture of thousands of people.” —David Stock, 2025 @_davidstock_ Follow @440Gallery here to stay up to date on our shows and activities, and read more about the work at 440gallery.com
