@steadyholiday is Dre Babinski, and she also happens to be the mother of our son, and this video for New Generation is us trying to capture just a little bit of her feelings in motherhood at this very specific time. It’s been our best collaboration yet… and the video is pretty special too. I usually spend my birthday avoiding eye contact. But since my life is upside down anyway: let’s give a warm, chunky green howdy-ho to the bday girl and New Generation. We got the whole team back together to make something special for LANY’s “Last Forever”. Inspired by the story of Paul’s accident last year, we set the video in that liminal space of post-crash unconsciousness. Another labor of love to create a song’s worth of magic and then capture it in a single, uncut shot. And this one, Take 09, is particularly special. Thanks to LANY for continuously being down to risk it all on these insane ideas, to my producer Jason Baum for being the real force to make it happen. To our DP Drew Bienemann for having the vision. To Freesh for holding it steady for 3 more minutes after a 1 minute dizzying opening scene. To Eva for setting the scene. To Megan for her creativity in motion. Seasonal Optimism: the video! When @ravishankara and I brainstorm, I first explain the themes of the song, then we throw out ideas. This time we realized every idea we came up with had already been done similarly in a previous video. Another idea, another previous video. He said well why don’t you write a different kind of song?? And I said wow that’s rude, how dare you, and naaaaah. Yadda yadda yadda came up with an idea that’s more about the process than the end result… and…. shit… it’s every Steady Holiday theme since 2021. The real kicker is that all the homies - despite the repetition, despite being hilariously overqualified, despite the budget of $99 for the chair and I’ll grab us dinner but also can we shoot at your house - were down for yet another scrappy one. What a world. So please enjoy! Slightly new look, same great taste. Wowee here we are. Seasonal Optimism!  I’m not reliably optimistic and that’s sorta what this whole charade is about. But I have my moments, and in those moments, it’s nice to eeeeease in. Even if it’s just a flash. And you guys I’ll be honest - it’s one of those songs of mine that really sounds like a Steady Holiday song. It’s very me and it feels good. So whatever. I’ll stretch genres another day.  I’ll go off separately about how much damn fun I had recording with @playwhatsnotthere @renatazeiguer @martin__cooke @magicdeatheye, and making the video with all my favorite wingnuts @ravishankara @omgdlb @mfentwin @afentwin @sandyzip @_derekhansen @otm_cameralighting Just out here tryna enjoy myself before the next dark night yall.
