💫Open hours are Wednesday 4-5:30pm💫 🌝This Wednesday will be the darkest open hours before the winter solstice this weekend starts to slowly lengthen our days again. Come help us finish the build of the newest plot! Last Saturday we had our All Gardener quarter 4 meeting. 🍌 Michelle joined us from @lacompost for best compost practices. 🗳️ Our new volunteer leadership was confirmed. 🖊️ New garden agreements signed. 👩‍🍳 Garden member Erin shared a recipe for Fig syrup. A simple syrup made from the leaves of our fig tree! 🍃Fig Syrup Time: ~10 minutes prep, 1 hour to steep Makes: 1 cup of fig syrup   1 cup water 1 cup sugar 4-5 fig leaves, washed and dried with stems trimmed off 1. Lightly toast the leaves on the lowest setting in the toaster oven until they shrivel just a little and become fragrant. 2. Combine sugar and water in a medium-sized saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer until all the sugar is dissolved. 3. While still simmering, add leaves to the saucepan. Continue simmering with the leaves for 3 minutes. 4. Turn off the heat and let the leaves steep for at least 1 hour to allow the flavor to infuse the syrup.  5. Remove leaves and store syrup in an airtight container. Then refrigerate. 📣Erin says: “Fig leaves impart a very herbaceous, nutty flavor that reminds some people of coconut. I use about 1-2 tbsp to flavor iced coffee or as a topping for vanilla ice cream. You can also use it in sparkling water or cocktails or over waffles or pancakes—or whatever else sounds good to you!” 🐌 See you at the garden!🐞 🪄Spanish translation in comments

Greetings from the GREENS department of our garden! Garden member Anchal and volunteers Luke & Yoonmi picked sorrel last Saturday from our communal area. 🌱What is sorrel? Sorrel is a leafy green high in vitamin C & magnesium. It has a tart and almost lemony flavor. Add it’s sharp, citrusy flavor to soups, sauces, salads, and smoothies. 💚Come harvest some sorrel on Wednesday during our open hours 4 pm - 5:30 pm💚 🥒Cucumber Sorrel smoothie recipe🥤 * 2 medium-large organic cucumbers peel them for a smoother smoothie, chopped * a splash of buttermilk or milk of choice * few tablespoons of plain yogurt * 4-5 sorrel leaves and a handful of fresh mint * 1-2 teaspoons of honey or pure maple syrup * pinch of sea salt Instructions * 1. Place chopped cucumbers in blender and add milk to get the blender going. * 2. Add yogurt, sorrel, honey, and salt and blend until smooth. * 3. Chill before serving, if desired. * 3.
