Excited to present our REM - 04 collection ‘Post - Nigredo’ in celebration of our 10 year anniversary! Captured by @jspyrou @sarabandefoundation

In Jungian terms,
Emerging from the nigredo (the alchemical “blackening) means you have survived the dissolution of an old identity.

Nigredo, Latin for “blackness,” is the initial, crucial stage in the alchemical magnum opus (great work) representing putrefaction, decomposition, and the burning away of impurities. It symbolizes the necessary, often painful, destruction of the ego or old structures, often termed the “dark night of the soul,” to allow for future transformation and rebirth.

Psychological Interpretation: Jung
interpreted nigredo as the confrontation with the, “shadow” a phase of self-exploration, confronting one’s personal illusions.

Design process: Restricting the collection mainly to black. Focusing on textures and silhouettes. Using zips for transformation throughout the collection, which I’ve hated and avoided for 9 years as it’s never appealed to me and has never really been part of my design language.
Making more pieces myself allowing the designs to unfold naturally and more intuitively.
Working with leather in a more sculptural way. Wet moulded accessories by hand.
Continuing to explore innovative ways of up cycling old garments and materials…

More to come..
